I've read the best av thread looking for a good AV scanner. Can someone comment on the one they're using and if it does/doesn't support Mozilla Thunderbird email scans (incoming/outgoing). NAV = yes AVG free = outlook only AVG Pro = ? Kaspersky = ? NOD32 = ? etc. Thanks!

How about it all. Can anyone recommend a non-bloatware alternative to adobe reader? The only feature I'm interested in is a full text search (beyond the normal reader functionality). I've poked around in google and on sourceforge.net but haven't found anything that's small and to-the-point. Ghost script, for example, is nearly as large as adobe reader.

Yeah, wish they'd get around to fixing that because one can edit the ini files and then simply call the setup.exe -im -ira using the edited ini files for a nice custom install.

I'd like to add enigmail and world-weather extensions to the base install of 1.0. I have extracted the installer files and am wondering how I can have both these extensions installed by default without user interaction: just there out-of-the-box wihtout an option to turn them on or off in the installer. Can someone walk me through this?

I have read about a dozen threads here on this topic, found a self extractor, an msi, and a link to a page that teachs one how to customize the installation, but I haven't found a thread that teaches how to do a silent install without using a custom built installer. Is the answer "you can't" because of that **** bug in the installer that doesn't allow one to use the -ira -im switches? Please reply if you can show me a thread I missed (shame on me) or if you can explain how to accomplish a basic silent install (nothing fancy, just no user interaction without using an installer package someone else built). How can I place some shortcuts on the "All Users" desktop on an unattended install? I have tried doing it by adding the files to \XPCD\$OEM$\$Docs\All Users\Desktop\<files> But that didn't work after the install. Windows endedup making a dir called "All Users.Windows" and used that for the installtion files.

Thanks all... I read the Unattended guide such a long time ago, I didn't even think to look there. Well, at least now this thread will point future questions about changing the default theme with an unattended install to the link Tsunami was kind enough to post. Also, thanks to everyone who answers questions that have a more obvious answer (like mine did). Some other message boards (in the LINUX world particularly) have a much different culture when it comes to these types of questions. You all know what I mean.

Right... the modified uxtheme.dll works just fine and my themes are in the correct directory. I would like to know if there's a way I can make windows use a particular theme *by default* on an unattended install.

Is there a tweak/setting to allow me to have a different theme (not the luna blue xp) appear on an out-of-the-box install? I have the background and theme (with hacked uxtheme.dll) saved as a *.theme file. Thanks!

So I should be able to do this in my batch_file.cmd: And that should append the path to my current entry. Is that correct? I'm not clear on what to do with the REG command as you stated. Thanks!

Is there a way to automate the addition of an entry to my path statement found under: Right-click "My Computer">Properties>Advanced>Environment Variables Under system variables is a "Path" entry. I always use Mozilla for browsing, and every now and then I'll use windows update via IE. Anyway, internet explorer seems to have new button bars on it now. I ran both Spybot and Adware and neither of them found anything wrong. Can someone tell me by these screenshots what I'm infected with and how to remove it? Thanks. BTW, the button bars are under eachother such that if you click on one, the other will appear. If you click any button on one, a registration box pops up. God, I hate IE. Thanks!

Is it possible to allow users to dialup into my XP Pro box (which is connected via broadband) and allow them to access the net? In other words, my XP Pro box would be their ISP? The ICS seems to simply function as a proxy server to PC on the LAN. I want people to be able to dial into my box and then use my boradband connection (modem speed limited of course).
