  1. I am looking for this version of the Comodo Firewall v12.0.0.6870 ... it is listed as the last version to be supported with XP and Vista. I have not been able to locate a download location yet. Dead links or no links so far, nothing that I can find at the Comodo website for older versions or File Hippo ... also a few other sites have come up empty. From the Comodo website about this version: Comodo Firewall v12.0.0.6870 09 July 2019 This version will no longer be updated on Windows XP and Windows Vista essentially making it the last supported version for those OSes. This is due to SHA1 deprecation. Future versions will also have a minimum system requirement on Windows 7 of Service Pack 1. Appreciate any information. ...
  2. just became aware of Windscribe VPN in the last 10 days from reading this thread. It works very nice with my Windows XP setup. The 'free' 10 GB plan is good. There doesn't seem to be many VPNs for Windows XP. Probably runs very good on Windows 7 and higher but it works good with the XP download. There are some online Winscribe reviews using search. ...
  3. I have a User Agent utility added to New Moon 28. You can add a few user agents to use instead of the Default. However, when you close down NM and reopen NM 28, the user agent is always back to the default user agent. Is there somewhere in New Moon a setting or someway for the user agent to always remain on the the user agent I have checked till I change it myself? ...
  4. Found this after posting the earlier post. Since there was no obituary and all I have is the birthday November 16th. This site lists a Gregory Braun who was born on 11/16/1953 and is 66 years old. That is close to the age listed in slot car racing forum article which was 65 ... so he probably has passed away with the same name and the age so close. https://www.mylife.com/gregory-braun/e70654690332 ...
  5. It's very hard to confirm this but I think he has passed away. I have used several of his software programs for many years going back to Windows 98SE. I mention this for anyone interested in his software programs. I usually go to his web site a few times a year to check for any new programs added ... most all programs were free to anyone. A few were not. The web site is down or 'has been suspended'. I did some time in a lot of searching and came up with another site where there was an announcement that 'Greg Braun' had passed away. It seems he was also into slot car racing ... still very hard to find a connection between the slot car web site 'Greg Braun' and the software web site 'Gregory Braun' until reading comments further down at the slot car forum someone posted this comment: "and he also was a computer scientist based on his other site." ... as I mentioned earlier that site is down or suspended and his slot car site is also down as mentioned in the forum. From the forum post ... May 16, 2020, 07:37 PM I found out this sad news today and I had already started to fear something had happened.,I had a small order thru PayPal which I’m not worried about as they will sort it out. When I saw the site down I googled some more and found this forum. He seemed like a really nice guy. His site was awesome and he also was a computer scientist based on his other site. Of course I didn’t know him but I have been looking at the site for several years. With all of this uncertainty now this is another tragic story . I also lost another friend in my car hobby circle today. May they rest in piece. -------------------------- from the forum site it was said there was no obituary and he had been alone and dead for some time. I liked his calendar program ... Calendar 2000. I found a site where all his free programs are still there and available ... don't know if anyone saved his actual site. Gregory Braun Software Design - Specializing in Windows application and utility development. Shareware and Freeware for business and personal use. Security, encryption and programming tools for the Windows desktop. https://download.cnet.com/developer/gregory-braun/i-52814 and this is his own web site, now offline: http://www.gregorybraun.com/ This is the mention of his passing at the slot car forum, https://www.hrwforum.com/forum/hrw-scale-forums/hrw-ho-scale/32610-greg-braun-hoslotcarracing-com Sad news about Greg Braun. He did a lot for the hobby. Greg Braun - Hoslotcarracing.com Update. For those of you who have visited hoslotcarracing.com, the site run by Greg Braun, for either general info, track layouts or to order, I found out today that Greg Braun has passed away. According to a neighbor, his body was found 2 weeks ago. He apparently took his own life it's estimated about 3 weeks before that. He was 65 I believe he lived alone. The neighbor said he had few friends. There is a sister in Minnesota who has been down here since his death to take care of immediate concerns. There is no obituary. I'm not sure if there was a funeral. The neighbor said he was a very private person. There is another neighbor who took care of lawn care for Greg. I'm going to try to connect with this person to see if I can get more details. When I went to the house today, there were 2 cars in the driveway and both had plates that expired in 2018. I'm guessing he didn't go out much. I never met Greg. I just knew him as a great resource in the hobby. He will be sorely missed. Please feel free to share this to other FB pages to spread the word. May his soul rest in peace. --------------- I mention this so you can check out his software programs while still available at the one site. Maybe everything will be on the Way Back site, I don't exactly know how that works. All I know for a real fact is that his birthday is November 16th ... he has that listed on his 'Calendar 2000' program on Nov 16th - Gregory's Birthday with a small birthday cake pictured. Perhaps someone has more 100% information on this ... I feel like I am 99% correct in this post but not 100%. It's still sad for a software person to be gone. ...
  6. Thanks VistaLover ... I searched around for version 32.0.0.371 since all this flash information was first posted and found nothing. I wasn't sure if I really would need it in the future but it can't hurt to have a copy saved. A big download for the three files I needed but it didn't take long to download. Wayback Machine comes through again ... I have to spend more time there. ...
  7. Regele ... I just like using the older version for checking files ... it was simple and did the job. ------------ Well I tried several Ghost backups and Malwarebytes no longer works in any of them, although it surely did at the time of each backup. Just get the message ... "You have the latest database version." ... doesn't matter what the date is. I am just going to work with the last date I have, being July 30th and I can still use that for a file download check. I don't really use the program that often anyway and usually updated it just a few times a month. ...
  8. docR ... thanks for the update information from your end. Vistapocalypse ... yes, my date and time are correct. I have two ThinkPad T42 computers that I did a backup on each on 30 July 2020. I always put my last backup on (April 12th) then update that backup to the current date (in this case July 30th). I had no problem that morning (July 30th) updating Malwarebytes from the April 12th backup. So last night I got the second ThinkPad out to see if Malwarebytes would update on it. I also get the same message on my other computer ... "You have the latest database version." , which is also July 30th, when I updated Malwarebytes before the backup on that second computer. So last night I also decided to put the April 12th backup back on the computer. Malwarebytes was working for sure on that backup since I got the July 30th update for my July 30th backup. The Malwarebytes update is of course April 12th. When I tried the Malwarebytes update last night on the April 12th backup ... I am now getting the same message ... "You have the latest database version." ... which is April 12th ... but that backup was OK at one point and the Malwarebytes update did work. Later today I will try some older backups from Feb and last year. It's a real mystery and since no one else is reporting the same problem ... has to be something on my end. I will continue to try to figure this out. thanks ...
  9. Thanks for finding the information from another forum. I will take their word that everything is OK with the older version still getting updates. I just tried to update again and Malwarebytes tells me I have the latest update from July 30th. I uninstalled the Malwarebytes 1.75.0.1300 version and did a cleanup and installed it again. The database is now dated April 2013 when this version was released. I ran the update program and was told that I have the latest update available from April 2013 ... over seven years ago. I guess the program has quit working on my setup ... this is just the 'free' version, not the 'Pro' version, which I never used. Thanks for your help ... I will move on. ...
  10. Awhile back I posted this in 'Malware Prevention and Security' ... I have not received a reply from anyone still using Malwarebytes 1.75.0.1300 with Win XP. Maybe everyone has moved on to a newer version and I am the only one left in the world using this older version, but someone must still be using this version with Win XP. What I posted earlier : Malwarebytes 1.75.0.1300 not updating, I am no longer able to update Malwarebytes 1.75.0.1300. I have been using the free version for years on my Win XP setup. My last manually downloaded update was 30 July 2020 and today I went to get the latest update and I keep getting this message: "You have the latest database version." .... of course that's not correct, so maybe this Malwarebytes 1.75.0.1300 version is no longer receiving a current database update. Can anyone confirm this or have you read any news dealing with this version not updating anymore? I can find no comments doing a search on the internet. thanks, ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I just tried updating again before posting this newer post and I am still getting the message ... "You have the latest database version." There used to be many updates provided every 24 hours and I happen to still like this simple version for a quick check every so often. So again I ask if anyone is still using this older version and able to get updates? The updates were still working on July 30, 2020. Thanks again ...
  11. I am no longer able to update Malwarebytes 1.75.0.1300. I have been using the free version for years on my Win XP setup. 12. Yes, I like that better than MoonBeam ... perhaps 'DeathRay' .... 'MantaRay' !
  13. Something like 'Neptune' ... is that name already used somewhere?. ... perhaps ''MoonBeam'... I myself lean to an 'interstellar space' connected name but I can't think of too many at this time. Just not some silly name ... not too crazy about the name 'Whistler'. I'm only interested in New Moon 28 which along with K-Meleon ... is all I use currently. I like 'New Moon' but I guess it has to go ... there are so many browsers to deal with but they all have a 'purpose' for somebody. ...
  14. How quick we forget ... or at least I did ... I didn't even remember this post from five years ago. A lot to think about ... I'm still alive and my three ThinkPads I bought in 2010 - a T41 14 in, a T42 14 in and a T42 15 in - are still running Windows XP SP3. The funny thing about all this - in 2010 I still didn't like Windows XP ... I was still a die hard Windows 98SE user. I had some older and slower Pentium 3 notebooks, which were slowly falling apart with the plastic and hinges going bad. I bought the three 'refurbished' ThinkPads to use with Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 and probably Windows XP. They all came with Windows XP installed but that didn't interest me in 2010. So two years later (May 2012) I finally tried Windows XP again and this time all went well ... I really liked the OS and decided to move on from Windows 98SE and Windows 2000. So 'fast forward' to April 2019 and all is well. For my needs, Windows XP does it all ... and I may also add that my three older ThinkPads still look great and are holding up well, including the 'hinges' ! I updated all of them with a newer CPU (Banias to Pentium M 745 Dothan), larger hard drives, DVD burners and I'm all set for the future or another five years, many more I hope. ...
  15. Interesting article ... Hotel Googlefornia By Stephen Green April 10, 2019 https://pjmedia.com/vodkapundit/hotel-googlefornia/ Even if you don't use Google, the Menlo Park data giant still has you and some of your most deeply personal information deep in its servers. Gizmodo's Kashmir Hill took on a "monumental challenge," according to the latest from Forbes, of not merely giving up Google's many services, but actively blocking all communication with every single one of Google's services on all her devices. In other words, Hill didn't just stop using Google Search, YouTube, Gmail, Waze, etc., she got "the help of a Motorola engineer who designed a custom VPN (virtual private network) that restricted all of her devices -- laptops, phones, smart speakers, everything -- from talking to Google servers." The result? It pretty much broke her access to the internet. Jason Evangelho reports what happens when your smartphone, computer laptop, and tablet are denied access to "Google's 8,699,648 (!) IP addresses," and the results weren't pretty: 1. When trying to get across town for a meeting, Hill discovered that her Uber and Lyft apps were essentially useless. That's because they rely on Google Maps. 2. Hill was unable to stream her favorite on songs on Spotify. Yep. Spotify hosts all its music on the Google Cloud. 3. Attempting to simply browse the web created flashbacks of the internet in the 90's. "On Airbnb, photos won’t load," Hill says. "New York Times articles won’t appear until the site has tried (and failed) to load Google Analytics, Google Pay, Google News, Google ads, and a Doubleclick tracker." Many of the sites she visited were also dependent on Google Fonts. . . 4. When trying to share video journals to her colleagues at Gizmodo, Dropbox refused to let her log in because the service uses an invisible CAPTCHA -- hosted by Google -- to verify that real humans are trying to access it. And those were just the obvious results. Behind the scenes, Hill's specialty VPN blocked her devices from trying to ping Google's servers more than 15,000 times -- in just the first few hours. After a week, it had stopped more than 100,000 attempts to share data with Google. And to repeat, this is after Hill had stopped using any of Google's apps or services. The company has its tendrils all throughout the internet. As Hill describes the process in her report to Gizmodo: I migrate my browser bookmarks over to Firefox (made by Mozilla). I change the default search engine on Firefox and my iPhone from Google—a privilege for which Google reportedly pays Apple up to $9 billion per year—to privacy-respecting DuckDuckGo, a search engine that also makes money off ads but doesn’t keep track of users’ searches. I download Apple Maps and the Mapquest app to my phone... I switch to Apple’s calendar app. I create new email addresses on Protonmail and Riseup.net (for work and personal email, respectively) and direct people to them via autoreplies in Gmail. Hill did literally everything an internet-connected human being can do to disconnect themselves from Google. But you don't have to be a Google customer in order to have the company garner 100,000 little bits of data about you every single week. Or as Hill herself says, "Google, like Amazon, is woven deeply into the infrastructure of online services and other companies’ offerings, which is frustrating to all the connected devices in my house." The fact is, you aren't Google's customer: You and your data are Google's product, served up on an electronic platter to advertisers and God-Only-Knows-Who-Else... even if, like me, you've boycotted all of the company's little data-sniffing products. As a libertarian, I have philosophical issues with the whole idea of antitrust. But when a company grows so big and so pervasive that you can't avoid becoming its tool -- even when going to the extreme lengths Hill went through -- then I can draw only one conclusion, expressed in three words. Break. Them. Up. ...

  18. Employee Falls for Fake Job Interview Over Skype, Gives North Korean Hackers Access to Chile's ATM Network: Report Victoria Song - Wednesday 11:50am https://gizmodo.com/employee-falls-for-fake-job-interview-over-skype-gives-1831801832 The one thing no one expects on a job interview is North Korean hackers picking up on the other line. But that’s apparently exactly what happened to a hapless employee at Redbanc, the company that handles Chile’s ATM network. The bizarre story was reported in trendTIC, a Chilean tech site. A Redbanc employee found a job opening on LinkedIn for a developer position. After setting up a Skype interview, the employee was then asked to install a program called ApplicationPDF.exe on their computer, trendTIC reports. The program was reportedly explained to be part of the recruitment process and generated a standard application form. But it was not an application form, it was malware. Because the malware was then installed on a company computer, the hackers reportedly received important info about the employee’s work computer, including username, hardware and OS, and proxy settings. With all that info, the hackers would then be able to later deliver a second-stage payload to the infected computer. As for the link to North Korea, an analysis by security firm Flashpoint indicates the malware utilized PowerRatankba, a malicious toolkit associated with Lazarus Group, a hacking organization with ties to Pyongyang. If you haven’t heard of these guys, you’ve definitely heard of the stuff they’ve been up to. Also known as Hidden Cobra, the Lazarus Group is linked with the Sony hack in 2014 and the WannaCry 2.0 virus, which infected 230,000 computers in 150 countries in 2017. They’re also known for targeting major banking and financial institutions and have reportedly absconded with $571 million in cryptocurrency since January 2017. The hack reportedly took place at the end of December, but it was only made public after Chilean Senator Felipe Harboe took to Twitter last week to blast Redbanc for keeping the breach secret. Redbanc later acknowledged the breach occurred in a statement, but the company failed to mention any details. ...
  19. I've had this little program sitting on my computer for years ... never really used it and forgot about it. Thought this might be of interest to Windows XP users. I have been lucky in not having any 'viral infections' for many years (many) and I have backups ... so I just forgot about this small program. In case anyone is interested ... XP EmergencyUtils http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_emerutils.htm Fix Windows XP Help xp_emegencyutil.exe - Creates usable copies of REGEDIT, MSCONFIG and Task Manager v1.2 - 07/26/2004 - Doug Knox Operating Systems: Windows® XP and Windows® Server 2003 only. Requires VB 6 Runtime Libraries, included in Windows® XP. This small VB 6 utility will create a usable backup copy of Taskmgr.exe, MSConfig.exe and Regedit.EXE in a new folder, called C:\EmergencyUtils. The new copies will be named Copy_of_Taskmgr.exe, Copy_of_MSConfig.exe and Copy_of_Regedit.com. These programs are extremely helpful and usually necessary in helping to rid your computer of a viral infection. Many virus programs will intercept these programs, based on their original file name and prevent them from running. The alternate copies will not encounter this problem. Simply navigate to the C:\EmergencyUtils folder and double click the file you need to run. To use: Download the xp_emergencyutil.zip file and save it to your hard drive. Double-click the xp_emergencyutil.zip file and extract xp_emergencyutil.exe to your hard disk. To run the EXE just double click it, there is no installer. You will have the option of running the programs automatically, after the copies are created. NOTE: Your antivirus software may warn of a potentially malicious script. This is normal, as the Windows Scripting Host is used to create the "copies" of these three utilities. ...
  20. Boo, the Famously Cute Dog, Has Died 'of a broken heart' Yahoo News UK 8 hours ago https://www.yahoo.com/news/boo-famously-cute-dog-died-broken-heart-095422816.html Boo, the famous and adorable dog has died. The light Pomeranian was a viral sensation and cute pictures of him adorned merchandise in shops such as Urban Outfitters. Over the last decade Boo gained a huge internet following, with 16 million fans on his Facebook page alone. Boo’s owners confirmed that he passed away in his sleep aged 12. They added that he started having health problems following the death of his canine companion Buddy, adding that they suspected “his heart literally broke when Buddy left us”. In a Facebook post, his owners confirmed the sad news and shared some images of Boo and Buddy over the years. “Dearest friends of Boo," With deepest sadness I wanted to share that Boo passed away in his sleep early this morning and has left us to join his best friend, Buddy. Our family is heartbroken, but we find comfort knowing that he is no longer in any pain or discomfort. We know that Buddy was the first to greet him on the other side of that rainbow bridge, and this is likely the most excited either of them have been in a long time. Since starting Boo’s FB page, I’ve received so many notes over the years from people sharing stories of how Boo brightened their days and helped bring a little light to their lives during difficult times. And that was really the purpose of all this…Boo brought joy to people all over the world. Boo is the happiest dog I’ve ever met. He was so easy going that we never had to bother with training. He made the manliest of men squeal with delight over his cuteness and made everyone laugh with his quirky, tail wagging personality. Over the years Boo met some super cool people, a lot of crazy talented people, but most of all so many kind people…friends who gave him endless love, people who prioritized his comfort over getting that perfect picture, partners who understood that Buddy ALWAYS had to be included, and last but definitely not least, the amazing doctors, therapists, and staff at Adobe Animal Hospital and Sage Veterinary Centers for the countless hours of care and dedication they poured into Buddy and Boo. The statement added: I brought Boo home in the spring of 2006 and so started the greatest, most heartwarming friendship of all time. Shortly after Buddy died, Boo showed signs of heart issues. We think his heart literally broke when Buddy left us. He hung on and gave us over a year. But it looks like it was his time, and I’m sure it was a most joyous moment for them when they saw each other in heaven. Boo, we love you with all our hearts and will miss you until the day we meet again. Have fun running around with Buddy and creating adorable mischief wherever you guys go. Thank you to all of you for following along on their silly adventures over the past 10 years. They sure had a LOT of fun. With love and our deepest gratitude, Boo’s humans. ...

In this article there is a link to check out your e-mail(s): "The breach was first reported by Troy Hunt, the security researcher who runs the site Have I Been Pwned (HIBP), where you can check if your email has been compromised in a data breach." You can decide if you want to check your e-mail ... Mother of All Breaches Exposes 773 Million Emails, 21 Million Passwords Victoria Song / Thursday 10:40am https://gizmodo.com/mother-of-all-breaches-exposes-773-million-emails-21-m-1831833456 There’s no shortage of data breaches these days, but this one should make you sit up and pay attention. The newly discovered “Collection #1" is the largest public data breach by volume, with 772,904,991 unique emails and 21,222,975 unique passwords exposed. The breach was first reported by Troy Hunt, the security researcher who runs the site Have I Been Pwned (HIBP), where you can check if your email has been compromised in a data breach. In his blog, Hunt says a large file of 12,000 separate files and 87GB of data had been uploaded to MEGA, a popular cloud service. The data was then posted to a popular hacking forum and appears to be an amalgamation of over 2,000 databases. The troubling thing is the databases contain “dehashed” passwords, which means the methods used to scramble those passwords into unreadable strings has been cracked, fully exposing the passwords. ... more at the link

  24. A new version update was released yesterday (Dec 28). It looks like these 'little updates' could occur frequently over the next few months ... as problems are being discovered and fixed. I don't know how many people are following this or have an interest in Proxomitron. I think the people that do use Proxomitron can just bookmark the site and check for updates every week or two. Lots of heavy discussion going on over there ... most of it is 'over my head' ... but these are the right people involved for a better version of Proxomitron in the future, maybe by the end of 2019. I left all the discussion in the post by Amy of the new update, it's interesting reading. My opinion is NO because it has security risks and the original version doesn't do it either (the resources at http://local.ptron is not available via http://127.0.0.1). Yes it is, you just have to specify the port. In other words, original Proxomitron had one listener (on port 8080 by default) which serves both the proxy and the internal webserver. In 4.6 I added a second listener which behaves exactly the same as the original one, except it's wrapped in a TLS socket. I have not been able to reproduce this (on XP 32 bit --- maybe I need to get a VM of a newer OS and try it...) but I bet it's related to all the code Scott added for custom drawing of textures and such. You can see M$ is showing increasingly less care for custom-drawn controls and UI customisation in general, so the one way to fix this is probably to remove all that custom drawing code and default back to the OS drawing when textures are disabled. I personally don't use the texture option, but I really don't want to remove the option for everyone either. ...
