  1. AstroSkipper - Glad to hear you came up with a fix and are able to get updates again. I look forward to reading your future article/post on the subject. Maybe some others will want v1.75.0.1300 back on their computer if they were having the same problem.
  2. Nothing has been changed through the years ... it is carried the day it was installed from backup to backup. I mentioned earlier that the program wouldn't update for about 8 months maybe four years ago. I just kept using it with the last definition update I had. I figured it could still check some downloads for me and then the program started updating again. I asked around but nobody else was having any problem getting updates, just me. I am not sure I understand your question: "last offline definition updaters for this version?". I always just manually update with the 'Update' tab. I never let it update on it's own when you first start the program. It may just start updating again one day. It's probably not that important in 2023 anyway ... most people have probably moved on to a newer version that works with Win XP. Nobody responded to your earlier request to also verify that they were still able to get definition updates for v1.75.0.1300. I may be the only one left still using the program ... probably not but there can't be many.
  3. Yes ... I should have said 'definition updates' earlier. It was dated for today July 12 ... number 4. I just ran the Malwarebytes update again and it is now - v2023.07.12.09. Some years back the definition updates stopped working for me also. I got in touch with someone at Malwarebytes and he assured me that they had not dropped support for v1.75.0.1300 ... but it just would no longer update. He worked with me for awhile but nothing worked. I would try to update a few times a month and one day after about 8 months I ran the update again and the definition update downloaded and has been downloading ever since. I made no changes to anything on my end, it just started working again. One of the 'Mysteries of the Universe' I guess ... I really wanted to keep this version on the computer so I was happy when it started working again. Thanks for the information on IPv6. I don't have a lot of knowledge on it so your explanation clears that up. I might go through the ZA version history someday and see when it was added but I'm sure the older version I'm using wouldn't have it ... as you said.
  4. For myself the ZA version still seems OK to me. It stops anything outgoing which happens every now and then and blocks some incoming high threats. I do not use the IPv6 protocol as far as I know. One thing I have been using today that I did not have with Windows 98SE and Windows XP back in early 2000. I started using Windows XP in 2012 ... however, today I am using a VPN for several years now which I feel helps out for added protection. I used to use Proxomitron for many years when Scott Lemon was still living but with the VPN installed I decided to drop Proxomitron for now. I never did fully understand all the code and settings. When I run an IP check ... I get this information: What Is My IP Address? https://whatismyipaddress.com/ IPv6: Not detected and when I do a check at these two sites I get good results. https://clienttest.ssllabs.com:8443/ssltest/viewMyClient.html https://www.howsmyssl.com/ So I am no doubt somewhat behind on more modern technology but everything seems to be functioning OK. I was not going to post anything about Malwarebytes but I am still using version 1.75.0.1300. It still gets updates ... just ran it this morning. I don't have it running as a rule ... only check downloads with it and also just to run it sometimes to check for any problems on the computer. So myself and my old ThinkPad are from days long gone ... but all seems OK except for some of these newer web sites and pages that sometimes make things a little hot. I will add that about 1 1/2 weeks ago I did download Sygate Personal Firewall v5.6.2808 from your post and had it running for two days. It was good but had a fan failure ... fixed that problem and just put my last backup back on the computer. So ZA is running again. I have Sygate saved on a flash drive. Good information in this thread / topic. ...
  5. Just checked the site out today, missed your question. Well that was some time ago that I posted about ZA and you remembered. Yes, I am still using v 4.5.594.000 ... which was the last version to be just a firewall and then they started adding the anti-virus program. As I remember things seem to slow down after the anti-virus was added from the complaints posted everywhere. People just wanted a simple firewall back then and many stayed with the 4.5.594.000 version at the time. I may be the only one left still using that version with Windows XP. April 12, 2004 - Last 4.0 Branch version / Firewall only 4.5.594.000 Fixed ID Lock display issue Added in-client Security Scanner support Routine maintenance items May 24, 2004 - New 5.0 Branch started / Antivirus Monitoring was added. 5.0.590.015 AlertAdvisor - Provides automatic program configurations Antivirus Monitoring - Helps manage other security solutions by alerting you when your antivirus protection (even from another vendor) has been disabled or is out of date Alert Viewer - New Alert viewer functionality organizes log details by feature category Various other enhancements for increased reliability of operation
  6. OK .... I will work with the S.M.A.R.T values. I don't have Hard Disk Sentinel but I will find it and put it on the computer. Thanks for your reply.
  7. OK ... I am not going to hold a lot of faith in these HD programs. You were writing about this back in 2014. Thanks for the links, I guess I can get temperature readings and just do a check to see if anything stands out, Otherwise just don't rely on them for much. Thanks as always for the information. ...
  8. I have had three of these programs on my ThinkPad computer for over 10 years and they all say the hard drive is OK. What is your opinion with the testing programs ... are they actually able to warn about hard drives going bad in time? Anybody else with knowledge or experience with these testing programs can reply also. I never heard of many of those HD testing programs so I can try them out later on. I am using this hard drive for over ten years, I think it's a good drive and I hope it still has some life left. They are still for sale as new on Amazon. Samsung HM160HC SpinPoint M5 160 GB 5400rpm ATA100 8 MB 2.5-Inch Notebook Hard Drive Thanks ...
  9. I may or may not have a hard drive going bad ... makes a little noise at startup but then seems to be OK for hours. I have a couple of hard drive testing tools on the computer and they report everything is just fine. Have no idea how accurate they really are. Searching around for more information I came across this article '13 Best Free Hard Drive Testing Programs' which was just updated on July 05, 2023. Most all these 'free test tools' are still listed as working with Windows XP and newer. I downloaded everything for any future need should there be one and since they still have Windows XP support. I thought others might also be interested. 13 Best Free Hard Drive Testing Programs An updated list of the best free hard drive test software programs By Tim Fisher / Updated on July 5, 2023 https://www.lifewire.com/free-hard-drive-testing-programs-2626183 ...
  10. OK ... found it using your earlier information ... this is what I downloaded: VirtualBox-4.3.28-100309-Win.exe / 13-May-2015 / 107M So I should be good to go. Also thanks Cocodile and AstroSkipper for the help. I haven't been to FileHippo for a download for several years. Yes, it used to be a good site ... I didn't think that FileHippo download looked right so now I know for sure with your help.
  11. OK ... I guess FileHippo doesn't have what I want ... I will go to your link since I now know what size to look for. Thanks ...
  12. Thanks for this ... I wasn't sure what to download, many things there with that version number. The download I got at FileHippo is only 1.68 MB. Does that sound about right? It's not a very big program or download.
  13. A simple question ... what version are you using for Windows XP? Thanks ...
  14. AstroSkipper ... looks like we were posting about the same time but I see you also posted: Application Data\Moonchild Productions\Basilisk\Profiles\ ... I just didn't expect 'Moonchild Productions\Basilisk\Profiles\' was where that Profile Folder would be residing. So you 'confirmed' what I discovered earlier. Thanks for your reply. Monroe ...
  15. mina7601 ... I actually found the Profile Folder but not where I expected it to be. I expected it to be in the 'Application Data' folder but it is in the 'Application Data\Moonchild Productions' folder. I just downloaded the 'New build of Serpent/UXP for XP!' by Roytam1 earlier today and did some settings and then tried to find the Profile Folder where everything would be saved.. So when the Profile Folder is created it goes into 'Application Data\Moonchild Productions'. I don't know why this happens but I can live with it, just needed to locate that Profile Folder. I was getting ready to sign on and post about this and then I read your post. Thanks for the reply. Monroe
  16. I have not been able to locate the Profile Folder where all the settings are stored. Doesn't seem to be where other browsers store the Profile folder. Thanks ... Monroe
  17. I found a solution online to adding the Toggle JavaScript (Enabled-Disabled) 1.2.2.010 Add-on button to a browser. If that Add-on button is on another browser then just copy the .xpi file in the Profile 'extensions folder' to the same folder in the new browser and you have a working On-Off JavaScript Toggle button. That was simple with a little online help. ...
  18. This link that you posted ... which worked for me at that time, doesn't seem to work anymore. I keep getting the message: Server not found Pale Moon can't find the server at addons-legacy.palemoon.org. I waited a few days, in case it might start to work again but just keep getting the same message. I recently started using Basilisk52-g4.8 Win32 and would like to add 'Toggle JavaScript (Enabled/Disabled) 1.2.2.010' to that browser. I've searched around looking for another link ... also tried the Wayback Machine but nothing to be found. Do you think PaleMoon maybe killed the link? If you have any suggestions ... ? ...
  19. AS ... thanks for the input. I just mentioned the older version of ZA as another 'option' for the OP to consider ... or anyone still on Windows XP. I downloaded four or five other firewalls that also worked with XP many years ago. That was 'just in case' one day the ZA version I was using started to give me problems or didn't work anymore. Happy to say that has never happened so far ... everything seems to be OK. ...
  20. Just a small add to my last post on ZoneAlarm 4.5.594.000. I was sure it was the very last ZA version that was only a firewall but I had to search around to be sure since it was over 15 years that I had been using it ... starting with Windows 98SE. It was the last version to only be a firewall. ZoneAlarm 4.5.594.000 was the last version of the ZA - 4.0 Branch. The very next version released was the new ZA - 5.0 Branch which now had Antivirus Monitoring. 5.0 Branch / ZoneAlarm 5.0.590.015 (May 24. 2004) + Antivirus Monitoring - Helps manage other security solutions by alerting you when your antivirus protection (even from another vendor) has been disabled or is out of date + Alert Viewer - New Alert viewer functionality organizes log details by feature category + Various other enhancements for increased reliability of operation Release History / ZoneAlarm Free Firewall https://www.zonealarm.com/software/free-firewall/release-history That last 'ZA firewall only' version was well liked as I remember ... it was simple to use, not bloated and worked. ...
  21. I still use an older version of Zone Alarm ... when it was still just a 'firewall' and nothing else. It is a small download and the free version was very good and easy to set up. It does all the work and then after using it a few times it will know from your input what to do. I have the Pro version on my XP computers now (last 10 yrs or so) but for years the 'free' version was all I needed. The Pro version is really not needed, I just decided to bump up. This was all before Zone Alarm started adding items to their firewall and messed everything up. I have tried several other XP versions of various firewalls over the last eight years or so but ZoneAlarm 4.5.594.0 is still the easiest to use and understand. This web site seems to still have this old version from around 2003 / 2004 ... and a search should find some others also. http://www.oldversion.com/windows/zonealarm-4-5-594-0 Other early versions: http://www.oldversion.com/windows/zonealarm/ ...
  22. Came across a write-up on Windows XP dated January 7, 2022. It mentions the six major editions of Windows XP and then some lesser known versions ... at least I wasn't aware of them. In the EU ... Windows XP Edition N. and in South Korea both Windows XP K and Windows XP KN.
