  1. Sorry to be a noob, but could someone explain how to do this, or provide a link to an explanation? That would fix the problem of trying to use this on a "blank" or "clean" system where Windows is not installed. Cheers and Regards
  2. Thanks again! Especially for the extremely prompt response! Cheers and Regards
  3. Many, many Thanks!!! Where did that come from? Is there a "button" I can use to do that, or obviously I can just use the string or copy the shortcut? Can I extend the time to posts over the last week? Just wondering what my options are. Off-topic, but I wonder if I have the same options over at wincert? Cheers and Regards
  4. How can I see all posts made over the last 24 hours, or is there a way? (Kind of an enhanced view new content) Cheers and Regards

    HFSLIPFC-2K

Sorry. My misunderstanding. I thought you were looking for a home for the files. Never mind. Cheers and Regards

    HFSLIPFC-2K

Not trying to be presumptuous, but if a stable home is needed for these files, would it be at all possible for them to be hosted either with the other HFSLIP files, or with fdv's files, or here on MSFN? As I have said, I always like the idea of related things being kept together. Of course if either space or bandwidth is an issue I totally understand. Just my two cents. Cheers and Regards
  7. He went here - HFSLIP - Test releases Beta H - February 27, 2010 Cheers and Regards Edit - And I really hope a solution can be found!
  8. All links in the above two posts now working. Cheers and Regards
  9. You need to read carefully the following 2 threads - IE8 integration on XPSP3 breaks with "manual" install and This update was not built into my system. It seems there has been SOME success in trying to do this, but it hasn't been consistent. This is also somewhat similar to the fact that repair installs using HFSLIP prepared disks don't work either (though it seems to me like it should) Google for threads where this is discussed. tommyp's main position is that HFSLIP was designed and is meant for use for clean installation from CD/DVD, and for that purpose it works just fine. It seems that it is something that HFSLIP does or doesn't do that causes USB based installations to fail, but unless something has changed lately he is currently not able to invest very much time in trying to sort out what's different between nLite and HFSLIP such that one works from USB and one doesn't. I know there are others who would like this situation to be resolved, so you're not alone in your request. Even though many are switching to Windows 7 there is still a lot of life left in XP. In fact both tommyp and fdv just recently, finally, switched to XP from Win2K themselves. If you are willing to do a LOT of the work and tests yourself, tommyp MIGHT be talked into reviewing your results and offering his advice, and if the problem can be further narrowed down, maybe even making a few changes to see if anything can be improved. Once you get started, others might join in and help with their own tests, expanding on your results, but you'll probably have to get the ball rolling. If you wish to proceed, I would suggest making a few attempts yourself, noting carefully the errors, and report your findings, or your success if you're lucky, preferably in a new thread. Hopefully then we can create a dialog and make some improvements. Good luck and please do keep us informed of your progress. Cheers and Regards

    HFSLIPFC-2K

If we end up having one for XP, 2K, 2K3, and XP64 - not knowing anything at all about the inner workings, but does it make any sense at all to combine them in some way? It just seems to me that by having one program to update rather than multiple versions there would be less to update, easier to keep in sync, less likely an error would creep into one version and not another, etc, etc. And of course my argument would then be to include it as a part of HFSLIP itself. But that's just my two cents. I've always thought that functions so closely related should be combined, but I know others think it's better to keep each function separate. Different programming styles I guess. Cheers and Regards
  11. Check out WPI - http://wpiw.net/. It will do the job for you. There is also a complete section devoted to WPI here on this forum - http://www.msfn.org/board/windows-post-install-wizard-f93.html. Cheers and Regards
  12. That would work great for files, but, is there a way that would allow him to also connect to "external devices such as the Printer, DVD-ROM", as he originally mentioned? Im a bit rusty with FTP servers, so forgive me if that was a stupid question. Cheers and Regards
  13. What? You want to get some motherboard (EVGA X58 SLI Micro), because a case (I never heard of a case shipping with a motherboard before) comes with ... something? I can't quite make sense of that. If I understand the OP correctly, he seems to be trying to avoid buying a new case, since I think he's saying that his existing PC uses a microATX. But with all he wants to buy, adding a decent case to give him more room, flexibility, and airflow should be a fairly small percentage of the money he'll spend. (IF he got everything on his "Wish List", which I agree would be an overkill most likely.) Cheers and Regards
  14. Maybe he's on holiday as mim0 was. I hope that's all it is, I miss his expertise and insights. Cheers and Regards
  15. I know this wasn't your thread originally, but if you've taken over following through with updates, maybe a mod could let you change the title and first post accordingly? Cheers and Regards
  16. strel: Have you looked at the new F# runtime from MS? See here - Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 F# Runtime 2.0. Since it only applies when .NET is installed, and it must be installed after .NET is installed, it seems as if it might be appropriate to add it to this package, at least as an option. Your thoughts? Cheers and Regards

    Windows Updates

I'm not sure about "always", but I haven't seen any reported problems here on the forum regarding using HF\WMP11. As to wmfdist95.exe, the latest discussion about it on the forum I've seen was here. That might give you some info. Cheers and Regards
  19. I guess that GrofLuigi and 5eraph were thinking as I was about fire traveling similar to ripples from rocks thrown in a pond - outward from the center in a circle. If that were true a firebreak wouldn't work, since as GrofLuigi stated: "I can't imagine a situation where it won't spread towards me. If I start a fire in the middle, the two fires will cancel each other out on the other side, but 'my' fire will go towards me." But that doesn't take into account wind, which will always drive a fire away from it faster than in can come toward it, so on the (assuming) flat concrete island it will go in mostly one direction, or at least in a spreading cone shape. And if there were absolutely no wind, it would indeed expand in a circle, but it would create wind blowing toward it from the updraft caused by the heat from the fire. You could then use that wind and create small fires at the edge of the expanding circle, where the greater heat from the larger fire would pull the other fires toward it creating a safe zone for you. Do I have the theory correct? Cheers and Regards
  20. Break off a branch to use as protection from the sharks, jump in the water to get totally wet as protection from the fire, get out of the water, run through the fire to arrive safely on the side that's already been burned. Cheers and Regards
  21. Yuran172, I know you don't trust nLite, but you might want to check out HOW TO create a fully up to date XP x64 DVD if you haven't already. Even if you choose to try to use HFSLIP instead of nLite, and there are valid reasons to do so, you might be able to use the info provided to at least discover WHAT you need, list of updates etc, even if you have to figure out WHERE to put them. The above mentioned thread seems to be very active and up to date, and the participants seem to be very knowledgeable and helpful, many of which I've worked with in other places on this and other forums. Good luck! Cheers and Regards
  22. I recently had similar problems with random BSOD and flaky web browser behavior that ended up being fixed by changing BIOS RAM speed timing settings. Whether your get errors with memtest or not, double check to make sure your BIOS settings are correct for the RAM you are using. Cheers and Regards
  23. Excuse me Lilla, but did you mean to say that you plan to EXCLUDE those three printer updates, ie NOT use them, or that you plan to NOT exclude them, ie USE them? From the context of your message you caught me off guard - I expected you to say the opposite of what you did. Cheers and Regards
  24. Lets us know if you find one so we can make sure that the list is more complete to make it more convenient for others who might need it. Cheers and Regards
  25. And likewise to the two of you! Cheers and Regards
