  1. You are having on Via site Windows 98 SE chipset drivers, SATA drivers but there is question about IGP drivers because on the drivers list there is no VX800 chipset IGP drivers. It is possible to try IGP drivers of CN896 (VIA Chrome9™ integrated graphics) because IGP is similar. Via data about IGP for CN896 is :"VIA Chrome9™ HC integrated graphics processor" and data for VX800U is "VIA Chrome9™ HC3 integrated graphics". This number 3 can create problems ! Now is clear that Via has ended Windows 98 SE support because they have not created IGP drivers for VX800 but they have created only Windows XP and Vista drivers !!!
  2. Maybe I am mistaking but this is normal situation and MBO will work with drivers from internet. From few days ago I am owner of new Gigabyte Nvidia 6x00 card. It is interesting to notice that in PDF book it is writen how this GPU support only Windows 2000, XP and Vista but after looking on CD you will find Windows 98 SE drivers (My only reason for buying this card) With this I want to say that because of bussiness agreements they will play drivers games but until drivers are on internet Windows 98 SE will work
  3. Yes you are right but you forget 2 problems. 1) Greatest number of users is having very little experiance with Windows installation and they do not like to play with BIOS. They want automatic installation and you will agree that with ATA hard drivers there is automatic instalation. 2) There is small number of new MBO which do not have Windows 98 SE SATA drivers (example Foxconn 671MX) Can you please create list of Biostar MBO-s which support Windows 98 SE, it is possible to buy in shops and which are on company web site ?
  4. For example I will take MBO with greatest FSB: Foxconn 671MX. Chipset producer (SiS) is giving GPU drivers but nothing more. Ulmost all other Via and SiS chipsets are having full Windows 98 SE support (drivers) In creating PC configuration for Windows 98 SE it is better to use UDMA (ATA) hard drives because SATA drivers can create very interesting problems. Biostar is not on the list because I can't find this MBO-s in the shops. All MBO on this list are having official drivers.
  5. Comments about this MBO created around chipset SiS 671 are right, but there is few tricks which we can use to solve few problems. We all know that MBO which are supporting Windows Vista do not support sound in Windows 98 SE. Only solution is to buy PCI sound card (if you wish to have sound in Win98) SATA is not great problem because MBO is having IDE connector so it is possible to use ATA hard drive and in worst case scenario together with him DVD USB 2.0 is problem
  6. It is weird but Fujitsu-Siemens are best for that (I do not understand why ?) This are links for Via Windows 98 SE drivers http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageI...&CatID=1110 On this link you have chipset VN896 , and notebook Amilo Li 1705 is created around that chipset ( http://extranet.fujitsu-siemens.com/VIL/dm...ilo_li_1705.pdf ) and Amilo Li 1703 is created around another Via chipset. It is possible to buy Everex notebooks gBook VA1500V StepNote NC1610 StepNote VA2001T Zonbu Notebook They are all created aroung Via chipset and Via IGP so they can work but more checking is needed.
  7. Foxconn has created only socket 775 MBO with FSB 1333 which can support Windows 98 SE Name of MBO is: 671 MX ( http://www.foxconnchannel.com/product/Moth...ID=en-us0000335 ) Special thing about this MBO is chipset SIS® 671 + 968 with Integrated VGA. Because it is possible to download Windows 98 SE GPU drivers from Foxconn site ( http://www.foxconnchannel.com/support/down...ID=en-us0000004 ) it seems that this MBO is supporting Windows 98 SE with official drivers
  8. Maybe I am mistaking but Winpatrol is not on the list. This program which can be downloaded from http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html will protect from different threats all Windows from Windows 95 until Vista
  9. Why not write email to AsRock and ask if this MBO will work with old Nvidia3 and Uli1695 Windows 98SE drivers ?
  10. My PC is Core2Duo with i865 chipset (http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=775i65G&s=775 DDRI ???) If you look internet page of ALiveDual-eSATA2 you will see in section: Expansion / Connectivity that on MBO there are: 2 x ATA133 IDE connectors (this is udma) You can connect IDE hard drive and DVD rom. For me this MBO is tricky because of drivers installation. Problems are possible because in example ULI or Nvidia drives can refuse installation when they "see" that there is hybrid chipset. In my thinking Uli is not problem because he has always been only half of MBO chipset. Problem will be Nvidia3 because this chipset (and drivers) has been created to be south and north bridge. What will installation do when she notice that north bridge is ULi1695 I do not know. If Nvidia3 drivers are writen OK everything will work if not you will need to make manual installation (I do not know how to do that)
  11. It is not important. This MBO is Win 98 solution but it can be tricky. Chipset of this MBO is ULI M1695 and Nvidia 3 and for both this chipset we are having Windows 98 drivers. Because I think that everybody now know where to download Nvidia 3 chipset I will only write internet address for download of Uli M1695 Windows 98 drivers. This site is: http://www.nvidia.com/page/uli_drivers.html I am 90 % sure that this MBO is last Windows 98 MBO !!
  12. Have you tried this drivers: http://www.nodevice.com/driver/RS482-M/get34479.html Reason for question are your problems with PCI System management PCI is under control of Southbridge and this are southbridge drivers...
  13. I am against that. In my thinking we need to have topic about MBO, another about GPU and third about other things. That way readers will easy find things about which are interested.
  14. Maybe last new MBO which support Windows 98 SE has come to the market. This is: AsRock ALiveDual-eSATA2 This MBO support new AMD Phenom microprocessors !!!

    Windows ME

My Windows 98 SE is working this way so Windows ME must work !! For me Windows 98 SE is better because Windows ME is half way between 98 and XP. On other side Windows ME is Windows 98 SE with all security problem solved (which have been discovered in 1998 and 1999) If you think of doing anything in DOS you will use Windows 98 SE. This is my reason for 98 .
  16. It is important to understand that there is no offical Windows 98 drivers for nvidia 4 chipset and for PCI-E video cards !! If somebody want to play with unofficial nVidia drivers and then with unofficial PCI-E video cards drivers he must understand that he is playing with sistem and that nobody can say if this will work OK or not ! In this situation must important question is always which video card will work, and which will refuse to work ?
  17. MBO Socket 775 which are still in shops: Abit I-S71, SiS 671 Gigabyte VM900M (VIA P4M900) GPU MSI PM9M-V (VIA P4M900) GPU ECS 671T-M (SiS 671FX) GPU ECS P4M800Pro-M2 (Via P4M800Pro) AGP (?) ECS P4M890T-M (Via P4M890) --It is having really bad GPU Foxconn P4M9007MB-8EKRS2H (ViaP4M900) ASRock 4CoreDX90-VSTA R2.0 (VIA P4M900) Core 2 Quad support AsRock 775i65G Chipset information: Via P4M900 chipset is having direct x 9.0 integrated GPU. This chipset is having Windows Vista logo. Problem is that for this chipset GPU we must use drivers of CN896 chipset, because they have similar GPU ( both are having Via chrome 9 GPU). For other drivers we need to use normal drivers from Via site. Vis K8M890 chipset is having direct x 9.0 integrated GPU and Windows Vista logo. SiS 671FX chipset GPU is having direct X 9.0 support and Windows Vista logo
  18. Problem is that Intel has stoped support for Windows 98 and it is not possible to use drivers from Intel site for instalation. Simple speaking Intel site is very bad for drivers for "our" OS. I think that drivers from SiS site or from site which has produced similar chipset before are much better for download. On other side because some stupid mistake for me it is not possible to install USB 2.0 on Windows 98 (Intel 865 chipset from 2007). Installation is going OK but after restart .... If it is not possible to install this drivers about which I have writen before you will have problem which is very similar to my USB
  19. But also need an AD1888/SoundMax driver from somewhere? This driver will be OK http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Downloads...=39&LanID=0
  20. When is possible it is better to have IDE (or PATA) hard drive. SATA is creating too much problems in Windows 98 SE installation ...
  21. This is very small problem. Look this site : http://www.gigabyte.com.ro/Products/VGA/Pr...&BUSSpeed=8 and here are Windows 98 drivers for Nvidia 6x00 Agp http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_81.98.html I do not believe that there will be problem finding computer shop with Gigabyte products In my thinking Nvidia 6x00 series is best for Windows 98
  22. AsRock ConRoe865PE is not supporting "CPU Overheat Shutdown to Protect CPU Life" option. This is clear because in manual they have not writen anything about this "tehnology". On other side in manual about AsRock 775i65G they are writing how MBO is supporting this option. This writing about good stuff but not about bad (MBO is not supporting Overheat Shutdown) is marketing You must not forget that AsRock is cheap because they use old tehnology.
  23. After looking site http://www.logicsupply.com/products/d201gly2 I can only tell you that this MBO support Windows 98 SE. Reasons for that thinking is possibility to download from SiS site Windows 98 SE drivers for GPU, SATA and Raid on this MBO (chipset SiS662 and SiS964). For coming to this place you must visit this address http://www.sis.com/download/agreement.php?url=/download/ In reality I do not like PCI Express chipsets (this is that chipset) but ....
  24. You need to find nForce430 drivers because it is southbridge. I want to say that nforce430 is controling SATA-PATA hard drive and DVD, sound card and other little things. GeForce6150 is controling "only" communication with CPU. Short version is you must find drivers for nForce 430. I do not believe that this drivers for Windows 98 SE exist but ....
