i updated the guide i test it and its wasnt good the system wont load up cos the backup and Manifests dirs but now its update-able but need to save the backup files of Iexplorer too to make it perfect i checked how much space its save 32bit 800mb [ my windows dir is 1.6giga] 64bit 1600mb [ didnt test it cos dont have VT so i guess the install size would be 3giga from 4.4giga ofc my settings] im not sure if its recommand to do on wim file cos there a files that wont delete [system use them] the best is do updating and then remove them [so u wont need to guess what the backup files of Iexplorer ] check picture to more info

vlite even working perfectly with server 2008 why say that such thing

test it and checked it anit helping alot same updates failed as always with winsxs removal

i think that Component cache winsxs removal do windows update problem cos the backup files of the comps that u didnt remove with vlite ] are removed

anit 64bit os is needed to slipstream 64bit ?

u need to copy ur cd/dvd to ur hdd and then direct ur vlite to there

im perrty sure that is the problem winsxs remove the backup as well so the update cant check the orginal files i gonna test it soon ill save the backup files and use winsxs removal [using vlite] i should have update working fine hope so

i would say imperfect cos ppls saying things to here and there i guess the problem is cos winsxs remove the backup files of the rest of comps that hasnt been removed suggestion for new vlite: make winxsx removal without remove the backup files of the comps that installed on the system

winsxs removal kills the add/remove if im not worng like its kills update and hotfix

i think net3 removal is make it 200mb im not sure

u could use ocsetup to install it better test ur new vlite os on vmware before going install it

geo411m nice ini but u could remove more another subject i tested something new about winsxs removal [Remove backup files without remove the Comps] the idea in general: now its could remove same backup files from winsxs dir by using vlite without need to remove the comp from it i save 320MB in 32bit server without remove all the comps its half from what i could even remove using vlite it bit hard to do it i will explain it in short how to do it: after v-liteing ur server 2008 [ or vista] u have same comps left in vlite u could remove but u need ofc u could remove the backup files in winsxs dir but ofc without use the dupe method [post at another topic "winsxs removal.." ] but with vlite itself [why ? safer i guess ] make a test copy from ur own vlited and vlite it as well removing everything [ non-extreme] after that u will need to use "whereisit" app [ sure u need mount it and use whereisit to save it to clg ] [and mount back to ur original vlited server or vista] and watch what files was remove from the winsxs only [just go to this dir in whereisit and do comper to media] remove the new files ["the new files"] [take own and full access to it] few notices: * [windows update] didnt succes to install same active-x update but the another update was fine * just server manager and ocsetup wont work so u really need to use WAIK to pre-install it all * the rest of the os working fine checked it not fully just in vmware! * the size u should gain from all this mess is about half [of the test copy diff] * so not alot if u are in 32bit * use this link if u wanna more info http://www.msfn.org/board/Guide-WinSxS-Dup...el-t109131.html Edit at 16.5.2008 i see that .NET Framework could have the same idea and save more 180mb to 32bit gonna test it so 32bit goes from 2500 to 2000~ whice is nice gonna save around 1giga at 64bit did the test in vmware looking ok *checked vlite working ok the comps still exist but same space were saved
