he doesnt really have a max, just around $1000, but would like to have it around $900 if possible. -Video card doesn't have to be good, decent is ok, not going to be for gaming anyway but would be nice if there is some leftover money. -Ill add the NEC 3550 in since i have one of my own but its a 3540. -Cases doesn't really matter, as long as it fits in the budget. But i think it would be nice to get one with case fans. -Harddrive he would like those 300GB ones. but doesn't have to if total cost too much, if the total of everything goes over, a 200GB is fine for him he says. Prefer IDE since i will be building it for him and i don't know how to setup SATA. -Power Supply is probably the last pick. Just anything that can run everything fine, and will last for a while.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813131025 look like a nice mobo eh? =]
-
hmm yea.. ill consider the e6600 core 2 duo. would be nice for him =]. now the motherboard. trying to search for some but i see some msi, asus, DFI motherboards and all and but can't decide which one to choose, dont want to chose the wrong one.
-
would it be better to get a pentium D or a Core 2 Duo? o.O http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819115004 or this o.o http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819115003

i have a friend who wants to build a computer for music so he can record music and all that. he is willing to spend around $900 for it. He also wants to buy all the parts from newegg. Im not much of a multimedia computer builder since i build gaming comps. So any suggestions? -Harddrive around 200gb-300gb. preferably 300gb. Prefer IDE because i dont know how to hook up SATA. -At least 1 gig of ram -a nice soundcard, im guessing creative soundblasters? =]. -A case that can cool it all nicely. just not TOO hot. -Power supply that can handle it all -Intel Processor(I think a dual core would be nice and best choice, but if not fit in budget, then not necissary. one that supports 64 bit would be nice.) + Good Compatible ATX Motherboard with PCI-Express x16, since i guess its better to have Intel for multimedia stuff. -A nice CD/DVD-r/rw Burner. -Nice video card too if there is enough money left after all the parts but video card isn't as important, decent one is ok. So yea he pretty much wants to use it for recording music, listening, might have tons of programs open too. He just wants a computer that can handle all that with no slow-down at all. =]. thanks.

i only have 1 wireless client which is my moms laptop, and sometimes i use my DS to play on DS Wi-Fi so i don't know if that counts lol. also what does frame burst do?
-
ok i got the thibor installed. and everything looks fine. how do i boost the wireless range and performance of the router? or was it already boosted after the install?
-
k ill try out the thibor, is there any instructions for flashing this firmware? i don't want to skip a step and brick my router. =| i don't want to have to buy another one >.<.
-
so i just got my router and installed the stock firmware to get it going. i don't seem to have any problems with it so far. so what are the pros and cons of thibor and dd-wrt? then i will probably make my decision from there. =].
-
ahh i see. i should be getting my router on july 27th so i hope i dont brick my router. what did you do to get it to install successfully? such as which browser, used IE or firefox, any instructions you followed, etc. thanks.
-
Well my new router is on its way after returning my old netgear which was really buggy. so whats the best 1st or 3rd party firmware for this router? i heard things about dd-wrt and read reviews that said it was a nice firmware.
-
i was just wonder where you are going to buy this because i am in search for a laptop that can at least game a couple of old games =D.
-
so the wrt54gl, is just straight up better and won't react like the v.5 right?
-
I'm planning to get a linksys wireless router but i'm not sure wheter to pick the wrt54g or the wrt54gs. i have no problem with the price, i just don't want to get a bad version, i heard that v.5 and v.6 were junk. by the way, should i go ahead and buy it? if so which model is best out of the 2? im buying this so my mom could use her laptop at home wirelessly. by the way im getting it from newegg. thanks.
-
I am right now to access the internet. ugh, this router has caused so many problems, i think i'm just going to return it, i still can't believe NetGear tech support can't even solve problems .
-
Called them, they said it was the same login as if i were using my modem itself, still didn't work. Mine doesnt have its own web interface.
-
So i wake up on a normal day like today, start up my computer, then my router just stopped connecting, well it said connected on my network connections panel, but when i try to go on AIM, Internet explorer, etc, it didn't work, it said page cannot be displayed on my internet explorer. i reseted my router, then it took me to the setup, then i entered all the info, then i get an error message saying, there might be something incorrect in the login and password thing, and i checked 10 times and it is right, there was another one saying that i shoulld turn off the computer, turn off modem and router, then turn modem back on and wait 2 minutes, turn router back on and wait 1 minute and turn computer on, but that didn't work either. I would go to the netgear forums for this but their forums are being reconstructed and i couldn't find anything when searching on google, yahoo etc. so can anyone help me? thanks. My connection type is DSL. My ISP is DSLExtreme. My Modem is a Westell WireSpeed C90. EDIT: I Called the NetGear tech support and they were absolutely NO help.
-
no i am not, i dont even know what nLite is. I tried that tweakui in the run thing but it gave me an error about not being found.
-
I have no clue how it dissapeared. I just did a reformat, and after the reformat, it just wasn't there. And how do i use TweakUI? i installed it and how do i run the program? That run command didnt work. =[.
-
i heard the latest version for my router "KILLS" it. i don't know what that means, but it doesn't sound good. should i take the risk? my Dowload speed is 1248kbps and Upload speed is 208 kbps, tested on Speakeasy. And also no i don't have the QOS thing.
-
so: internet -> DSL modem -> netgear router -> ? what's the rest of your setup like? I.E. how many PC's are connected to your router? Are they connected wirelessly, wired? DON'T DISABLE YOUR SPI FIREWALL on the router. Leave that enabled! It is quite possible DSLextreme has capped only p2p traffic. Were your downloads faster before you put the router in place? Internet --> DSL Modem --> Netgear Router --> Only one wireless card for moms laptop, and she barely uses the connection. only 2 pc connected to the router, mine that im using right now and my mom laptop. And i usually download when she is not using it and not on it at all. And yes my downloads were faster before my router installed. this comp is connected wired. i download like 30kb and less, before they were like around 60kb.
