  1. I just want to say I think MSFN is great, it helped me find so much information I was looking for, helped me with solutions for problems and made me aware of new things. Thank you to the owners / initiators of MSFN and thank you to the members. Happy new year to everyone. Jennifer
  2. Hi Geepnozeex :-) Your visual styles look great! Can you please tell me if I will need WindowBlinds to use your VS's? And also if it is possible to make the highlight on the start menu transparent like in your VS's without using WindowBlinds? For example just using a msstyles file? Jennifer
  3. How can I make the different options display information about the option when the mouse hovers on any option? For example: Install / Upgrade Windows option Choose the upgrade option to automatically upgrade your current version of Windows. Upgrading preserves your installe dprograms, data files and existing computer settings Choose the New Installation option to replace Windows or to install on a separate disk / partition. Existing programs, data files and settings will be lost. During upgrade / new installation it is normal for your system to restart a few imes and for the screen to go blank for a short while. Jen

  5. I forgot to ask something else about APMS, how do I create submenus like in the original XP setup.exe file?
  6. Hi Hessam Thank you for replying, I will follow your instructions and hopefully it can work lol How good are you with visual styles? I have a question about something visual style related. Thanks again, Jen
  7. APMS 7 acting very weird, not very good software I think. Anyone know of better autorun menu software?
  8. Hi all, APMS 7 not working / something weird going on. When I create a new button and want to add the appropriate action I cant type anything in the Quick Action / Action to Run field where the execuatable must be, also when I browse its very slow to display folder contents. When it eventually does show the contents and I choose winnt32.exe, I click preview, then I click on the button I created (to install XP) and I get errors. APMS changes the path to its own liking so winnt32.exe doesn't work. I can also not select the Working Folder properly, I only get CD Root or Autorun. Does anyone know of a better utility to create autorun menus?
  9. Hi all, Can anyone please tell me how to change the left webview pane in XP? I want to replace the gradient color (blue) with an image and I also want to change the text color to white. I know it must be done in shellstyle.dll but I do not know how. I have already tried editing the shellstyle.dll file but there is no image file for the left webview pane, it only goes to 112, in other shellstyle.dll files from other VS's I see there is an extra number added eg 113 and that always contains the image for the left webview pane. Thank you for reading, Jen

This is really confusing to me.
  11. It would be much better / more user friendly and more practical if one could upload an image to the MSFN server instead of some external image hosting service.
  12. Yes I agree RapidShare is not a very good choice when you want to share files with others.
  13. You are the man! Great Visual Style!!! Already downloaded Want to ask something, I have a VS I modified, but the one thing I could never figure out is: how do I change the left webview pane background? I want to put a image in there from a jpg file. Thank you in advance, Jen
  14. I also experienced this problem before and have no solution, what I have noticed it is visual style related, meaning it differs from one VS to another. I hope someone can answer this question, I would also like to know the answer. Jen
  15. Hi all, I have a problem with a button that I use in my customized XP visual style, I edited the msstyles file and inserted a button with round corners, in some dialog boxes it displays correctly but in others it has square corners. Do you perhaps know how I can fix this? Jen
  16. Hi Do you want to integrate Office 2003 as an addon? Or do you just want to put the Office 2003 installation files on the DVD? I don't know how to integrate Office 2003 into the XP installation files but if you just want to put the Office 2003 installation files on the DVD to manually install Office 2003 after you installed XP then yes you can. Jen
  17. OK lol well I am surprised at you guys I didn't expect this much interest from anyone about this subject, but its great and I am very happy about it. I have also had a thought that it might be the network, but I removed my wireless network from my PC and disabled the onboard LAN, so there is no network it can detect / try to configure / do whatever As far as I can remember the network part is installed early in the installation just after "installing Devices" - long before the T13 issue. I wish I could leave my cabs expanded but Im limited to a 700MB CDR. Thank you for the F10 tip, I didn't know about it, I will give it a try when I install my next nLited XP this weekend, hopefully it can show me what is going on at T13. I tried "Alt + Tab" in the past but it doesn't work. Thanks for everyone's input, I really hope we can sort out this issue (hopefully soon) lol If anyone want to talk directly my Yahoo ID is togethr_for_ever@yahoo.com Jen
  18. Yes it doesn't lol although I must admit having such a fast version of XP would be great if only it was stable. But you can't have the best of both worlds, so I guess a little slower with stability is good. For me the loitering at 13 minutes is a bit long, 5 instead of 10 would have been OK. BTW I use a P4 3GHz HT, 1GB DDR RAM, 80GB IDE HD. Overall I am very impressed with its speed. I will keep the "fast" nLited XP for its uniqueness, I have made another since and it loitered again at 13 minutes remaining, is slower inside Windows but stable like I am used to it. So I guess this topic is covered and closed. Thanks to everyone reading and to everyone contributing. Case closed. Jen Originator
  19. Hi yes I did check setuplog.txt but I only checked setuperr.log now when you spoke of it, I didn't know about it Anyway there is nothing in setuperr.log. I always check setuplog.txt and the one thing I have noticed is that there is always a big time difference at the following place: 06/30/2008 15:28:35.749,d:\xpsprtm\base\ntsetup\syssetup\syssetup.c,3794,BEGIN_SECTION,Loading service pack (phase 4) 06/30/2008 15:31:52.546,d:\xpsprtm\base\ntsetup\syssetup\syssetup.c,3796,END_SECTION,Loading service pack (phase 4) Please note this log is from a previous nLited XP Pro, its the one I am talking about in the topic I started, this is the XP that installs very fast and that is also very fast inside Windows but unforrtunately unstable. This is the only nLited XP I have ever been able to create that is so fast. In the setuplog.txt from other Nlited XP's the time difference is always about 10 minutes while in this one as you can see its only about 3 minutes and 20 seconds.
  20. Hmmmm its really weird, I wish I could use the previous version, it installs so fast and even inside Windows after installation it is very fast but unfortunately unstable. I guess you can't have the best of both - speed and reliability
  21. Hi Agi and Witt:) Thank you very much for your quick replies! Yes I understand that the installation of XP is a complicated task with lots of things going on (I think) It is just so strange to me that there is no hard drive activity for 10 minutes after it says "13 minutes remaining", its asif the XP is waiting for something and then finally after 10 minutes decides OK its not going to happen let me carry on installing. I made a previous nLited XP and that one doesn't stop at "13 minutes remaining" for 10 minutes, the hard drive continues working and it only stays at "13 minutes remaining" for about 2 minutes. But there is something else, that previous nLited XP installs very fast but is also unstable, many times a program will become unstable, and other times when i close a program it crashes. I installed that version on 2 different computers and both computers behave the same - unstable. Jen
  22. Hello everyone. I have a question I hope you might be able to help me with. I have XP Pro Corporate version with SP2 slipstreamed. I currently use nLite 1.4.8 but have used previous versions as well. Like most people I customize my XP such as removing certain components, adding add-ons, adding visual styles, changing settings etc. My XP always works fine after I customized it with nLite, the only thing I am curious about is why it must always wait 10 minutes during installation when it reaches "13 minutes remaining"? If that can be fixed my installation will take 10 minutes instead of 20 minutes. Well thank you for reading this and thank you if you reply for your time. Sincerely, Jen South Africa
