  1. Hi johnhc, Thank you again for your reply, here is my last session.ini. Last_Session.ini I always start with fresh source files and always disable SFC. My modified shell32.dl_ always used to work perfectly in my nlited installations, its just the last 2 times I noticed somehow my modified shell32.dl_ is somehow for unknown reason replaced by an older standard version during the installation of my nlited source files. Thank you also for the link to $OEM$ folders, I appreciate it a lot. Jennifer
  2. Hi johnhc Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it a lot. I am at work now, I will post my session.ini file here tonight. Can you please tell me how to carry out the "$OEM$\$$\System32 folder " method you are speaking of? I know of the $OEM$ folder but have not seen the $$\System32 folders yet. Nlite creates the $OEM$ folder as far as I know. Thank you in advance, Jen
  3. Hi all, A strange situation recently developed when creating a custom XP CD. I Nlite as usual, which includes settings, hotfixes and addons. I know certain hotfixes modifies shell32.dll and I know XPize also modifies shell32.dll, thats why I nlite, then xpize and lastly replace shell32.dll with my own customized version in the i386 directory. But lately when I do this (like I always have) my shell32.dll is replaced by an older version, which is impossible but it happens. All I can suspect is that somewhere there is another shell32.dll in the source files that replaces my shell32.dll in the i386 directory for unknown reason during installation of XP. I have (and always do) turned OFF SFC in Nlite. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you for reading. Jennifer

  5. This is my 2nd VS
  6. Hi Mordac85 Thank you for your reply, believe me i have searched everywhere for help on this topic but I can't find anything. I know it is possible because visual style creators do this lots of times and I have seen it in visual styles. I think everyone is just into Vista now as the XP Visual Styles forum is dead. Vishal Gupta from askvg.com suggested I use style builder, just received an email from him this morning, although I prefer to know myself what setting does what. I hope Stylebuilder can save visual styles in msstyles format. Jennifer
  7. Hi all, Can anyone please tell me how to change the left webview pane in XP as well as how to change the Normal / Special Group backgrounds? In left webview I would like to replace the gradient color (blue) with an image and I also want to change the text color to white. I know it must be done in shellstyle.dll but I do not know how. I have already tried editing the shellstyle.dll file but there is no image file for the left webview pane, it only goes to 112, in other shellstyle.dll files from other VS's I see there is an extra number added eg 113 and that always contains the image for the left webview pane. In Normal / Special Group background I would like to remove the white rectangular blocks in the left pane? (under "Network Taks" and "Related Taks") Please see included picture. Thank you for reading, Jennifer
  8. Hi all, I have a riddle I can't solve, I downloaded a Visual Style with 2 colorschemes / styles inside (msstyles file with shell folder) the shell folder has 2 different shellstyles each in their own folder - normal and metallic. The one style is blue like I want, but the other is grey which is not how I want it. Can anyone tell me how to change the grey color to be the same as the blue color in the Visual style like in the picture I included? I will appreciate it very much. Jennifer

  10. Hi Ahmed, Thank you very much for replying, I am going to try your advice and see what happens:-) Something else has come up, I want to change something in a msstyles file but I do not know where. I made a new posting under XP Visual Styles, if you can please look there and tell me what you think. Thank you again, Jennifer
  11. Q123 thank you very much for your help I really appreciate it a lot, I am going to try your instructions ASAP. Jen
  12. Does anyone know how to remove the white rectangular blocks in the left pane? (under "Network Taks" and "Related Taks") I will appreciate any help a whole lot. Thank you in advance, Jennifer
  13. Great, thank you I will take a look :-)
  14. This is my desktop / Visual Style - This is how my XP Pro looks after installation, I set this as the default VS with Nlite. If anyone wants this VS I will be happy to upload it somewhere for downloading. Jennifer Link
  15. Hi all, How do I change the default animation in the file download dialog box when downloading a file from the internet? I already changed it under AVI in shell32.dll but now it shows nothing when downloading a file. In its place I inserted another AVI file. (the one from Vista file copy progress) Thank you in advance, Jennifer
  16. Hi geenozeex, Thank you for replying, I would like to ask, if you have a few minutes, can you please explain to me how to make the same PNG file like on your start menu with the Alpha channel transparant. I also do not know which file in the msstyles file to replace with the PNG file. I use Corel PhotoPaint 13, can this software make the PNG file Alpha channel transparent? Jennifer
  17. The Russians sure are good with tweaking lol, I have seen them in action when I worked with a few in London in Information Technology. I made my final customized XP CD last night and I am perfectly happy with my custom VS. I just have not been able to find out how to change the left webview pane. I know its somewhere in shellstyle.dll. Do you perhaps have experience on this? I would like to replace the blue gradient color with a jpg file.
  18. Hi Thank you for replying, I found that it only happened on a customized XP installation, I have no idea why, I used the CalcPlus 1.3 addon from Xable.
  19. I only know of winntbbu.dll
  20. OK I understand what you are saying, I guess it might be a limitation of XP, although Geepnozeex said I do not need WindowBLinds to use that visual style he / she made, thats why I thought it might be possible to get that effect using just msstyles files. Thank you for the Vistart information, I must admit I am not a fan of using 3rd party s/w to achieve effects on my PC, they are possible candidates for complications, and another reason I do not use them is because I want my XP installation after Nliting it to be the way I am going to use it, I do not want to fool around with installing and configuring software after the install for special effects. I like my XP to be ready to use after installing it, wiht the exception of installing CorelDraw 13 and Office 2003 Pro, I still need to investigate how to slipstream Office 2003 Pro into my XP source files. My visual style is pretty much completed, it'd just have been nice to have the transparent highlight effect in the msstyles file. Thank you for your time and attention, Jennifer
  21. Hi, thank you for replying. Please look at the image I included, I made a red circle around the highlight. I would like to know how can I make the highlight on my startmenu like the one in the picture? I only use msstyles files, I do not use Window Blinds. I already use patched uxtheme.dll By Jennifer_Arden
  22. I downloaded the MS Calculator Plus 1.0, when using the modern skin setting and starting the calculator it seems to be non responsive (keyboard and mouse) Upon further investigation I noticed it does respond but you can't see it responding. I assume it is some kind of refresh problem. When you Start the calculator and click a few buttons nothing seems to happen, but click on the desktop and then again on the calculator you will see it displays the buttons you clicked. When using the "Classic View" it functions without any problems. I use XP Pro SP2 with numerous hotfixes and addons as well as a customized visual style. I don't know if the problem might be related to SP2 or any of the addons or my visual style. Graphic adapter is Nvidia GeForce 5500FX 256MD DDR with recent driver. Has anyone experienced a similar situation?
  23. OK thats great I don't like Windowblinds so much. I would like to ask another question: How can I make my own visual style to have transparent highlight on the start menu? Jennifer
  24. I also do not like Rapidshare, many times the download is not available / the maximum number of free users has been reached / some moaning about my IP already downloading stuff while I am not. Rapidshare sucks bigtime. Jennifer
  25. Thank you everyone, I wish you all a wonderful new year and I hope for many interesting topics / threads here Jennifer
