The XPinstall site should not exist any more now... well, officially. It exists, but not at the original URL If you really need XPinstall, http://www.voidfx.com/xpinstall/ as opposed to http://xpinstall.voidfx.com/ As a sidenote, this semester is going to be a bit hairy... I stupidly volunteered to be team leader for the satellite we have to make... at the moment, I have 15 minions XPlode2 is going to be a loooooong while off...

URL: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en I expanded the exe, then used dxsetup.exe /silent As for Win2K, no, it wasn't on win2k, but these things aren't made to be different. I'd assume that it works under win2k, but stranger things have been known to happen.

It does work. I got the software dev redist version, and it works fine.

Did you even look at the stickies?

People do what you say all the time - put the latest hotfixes, and drivers on the CD only. No other programs, and all customisation is done manually. I tend to whack on my XP cd's all the drivers for all the hardware I have in the house, and rebuild with the latest hotfixes only when I need to. Which isn't all that often. Slipstreaming everything including the kitchen sink is usually done when someone only needs to do one or two computers, with a certain setup that they want all the time. How many people only have one computer nowadays? The easiest approach, I'd say, is to use XPCREATE. You can just drop your drivers in the $OEM$ path, set up your OEMPnp... paths, and it'll go fix everything else up when you build the ISO.

Any way to send backslash key with Jscript?
Wraith replied to ChiDragon's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Try double backslash. The backslash is used to generate an escape character, so double backslash is usually translated to a single backslash elsewhere. -
And another counter post, RAM uses true binary measurements. I rather like the engineering field, english is just so........ boring. Can anyone say no job potential in english?

You can't. There's no support for conditional statements.

Nice one killerbee... good to see people using it in ways I hadn't envisaged (Makes sense though )

Well, it's happened. And you should all have known it was coming. XPlode development is now on an indefinite hold. Main Reasons: Going back to uni on monday, and it's quite a full week It's quite feature-complete as it is Rewriting code that I'm not allowed to release is a pain People using it doesn't warrant a complete rewrite And the most important reason: It just doesn't interest me any more Sorry if you were looking forward to a new version, but you are probably going to have to wait until the end of the year for such a thing. I am willing to make minor changes to XPlode 1, but nothing too extravagant. Expect me to figure out something new to write in the near future...

It's a work system as much as it is a leisure system. Realtime digital video editing == RAM and HD hog... Which reminds me, HDTV capture card as well.

How to install XP without installing Movie Maker?
Wraith replied to ShiyuTang's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
No offense, but your searching skills seem to be nonexistent. Look up nLite. -
Try #FF00FF, or #0000FF. Those are generally the transparent colours for bitmaps that I've seen in windows. If not, http://www.googleisyourfriend.com/

There is a possiblity that the installer is spawning a completely different process, then exiting. I had known this would be a possibility, but it's the first time that I have known of it occurring. I can't really "fix" this thing, so you're going to just have to live with it... That is, of course, if I'm assuming correctly.

Intriguing. Off a DVD, Network or HDD? ---------- As for the positive comments, I can't think of any reasons as to why you'd want an Ath64 over a 32. Personally, I'd wait until the software caught up with the hardware before buying into it, as the hardware's capabilities just aren't utilised. I would've liked to have bought my Ath64 when 64-bit windows or whatever came out, but my purchase was due to need, rather than want. Fried CPU's are fun. About the only things I can say are: Cheap. Cool, relatively quiet. Nice for bragging. Really, the only reason is the speed. They're just really fast for the clockspeed.

Haven't come across anything like that, WinXP 32-bit runs the same as is usually does, coming up with errors with "Could not access memory". Had this on my old TBird too. Do these make any real difference? Okay, this is one I have to agree with. My Athlon64 3200+ has a stock clockspeed of 2GHz. I've overclocked it to 2.1GHz, where it seems stable. The stock CPU fan keeps the CPU at 34°C when at 0% load (which isn't very often considering I run SETI), and 43°C at max load. And that's WITHOUT Cool 'n' Quiet turned on. So it's still sitting at 2.1GHz when at 0% load. I figure I could get it down to about 28°C or so if I did. I might go try it in a sec. Too bad M$ isn't getting off their arses and doing something about it. One wonders if we'll see a "proper" release of XP or S2003 with 64-bit extensions. All the ones I've seen are all "tech previews" or whatnot. This is something that I agree with, I did experience a slight speed increase when using 64-bit gentoo, as opposed to 32. While it was there, it was not remarkable. I think you pulled that out of your arse... Not to be rude, but we've moved to a place where the graphics card takes virtually all of the rendering of games. The CPU does little, apart from things like AI, gameplay etc. - very little graphics processing. EDIT: Umm yeah, remind me to read the full statement next time Still relevant though, you can get just as good performance on a 32-bit machine. It still takes 40-odd minutes for a base install on here. Admittedly, that's probably because I'm still installing XP off CDs, but in general it's nowhere near as fast as you quoted. HDD install may be different. As you can see, fanboy-ism isn't really an issue here I like it, I really do, but some things just aren't what they have said them to be. I expected as much though, and even though some things may be misleading, it's still a great processor. Hope it helps, maybe you should just edit out the negative things when you need to give this "demonstration"

Just shows how superior we are Go have your holiday, dont' waste your time here!

Yeah, like getting some more Foster brewing now that the drought's over !!! Who says the drought's over? A little bit of rain doesn't fix the fact that the water supply for Sydney is at 45% Besides, Fosters is crap. It's too watery.

I'm sorry, I'm just sick of people that don't even try looking for an answer as to why something is happening, and expect the answer given to them on a plate. Enough of a "rant", I've had my say. Time to do some work....
-
OMG!! i ask this yesterday too.... it is standard set on "0" was told me.... (i am sure it isnt) do u have use tweak.reg with that key? Trying to say this in the nicest possible way.... why don't you THINK for once? 8.3 is on by default. Do yourself a favour, format, and find out yourself. As for this "tweak", there's an export function in regedit. I'll leave it up to you to figure out how to put 2 and 2 together. Alright, enough from me. *wanders off to do soemthing a heck of a lot more important*

Nobody donates. At least, they never did for XPlode. *shrugs* I have better ways to generate an income anyways

Run XPCREATE normally, get it to download the hotfixes etc. first. Then, disable downloading in the XPCREATE.INI, and remove the unwanted EXE's that were downloaded previously.
