nice find seems to fix the problem with two usb drives showing up with nusb

I actually think that 2.46 runs better than 2.6x, so I don't think its a big loss. 2.63 still needs some work, I would still call it a beta release. 2.60/1/2 had some really big bugs.

There is something wrong with your system. Maybe this will help isolate your problem http://www.memtest86.com/

There should be a file on your compaq restore cd to rebuild the hibernation file. Look on the compaq website for the specific file name. On Gateway systems the file is called chks2d.exe If not, then you have to do a clean install. http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q257360.EXE This file won't fix your problem, but it's helpful to have when your computer won't come out of standby.

Kernel32.dll 4.10.2226 is the copy2gb fix, this bug is already addressed in the shell32.dll fix, but I have tested it and find it dosen't cause any conflicts, so there is no harm in adding this fix. I am, however against adding NUSB because MD updates his pack more often then gape does, so this will become something that I will have to manually remove, then re-install. Also, MSFN is beginning to crack down on EULA's so I don't like the idea of including legally questionable windows ME files. I really don't want Gape's pack to become a bloated monster, so IMHO he should stick to OS updates only. WIA is a format that is not widely used, what limits most scanners working in 9x is lack of driver support, not WIA support.
-
MD makes a great patch, there is no need for Gape to duplicate his work. Installing the NUSB patch seperately is not hard at all for the user to do. I think Gape should stick to OS only updates. If you want a patch that includes everything, there is already the 9x autopatcher by sophorific EDIT: I almost forgot, Gape has a strict no windows ME policy. There are a lot of files that are from windows ME in NUSB.

Works fine for me, although I deal only in text based files. The guy updates the program pretty frequently, maybe the next version will be better. The only problem is that the author rarely updates the web page when he updates the program.

I found this nice program that converts docx files to rtf files. It's the only one I know of that is both free and client based http://www.nativewinds.montana.com/software/docx2rtf.html

I noticed you are using KRNL386.EXE ver 4.10.1999. MDGx has a newer version (4.10.2000) that claims to fix some kind of memory corruption bug. I love that your service pack is slim and not bloated. For people who want a kitchen sink approach, there is the excellent autopatcher. You solution, while not as comprehensive, is much lighter, and dosen't install unnecessary stuff.

98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
blackwire replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
I'm not sure what the exact cause is. I am running a pentium 3 based laptop with acpi enabled on win98se with Usp3.0a2. I am also running powerstrip. Powerstrip and ACPI are the only things I can think of that would cause the cpu load to act funny with the patched file. -

dencorso, I noticed some problems with the patched SYSMON.EXE file. It always shows my cpu load at 100% even though I'm not running anything. The original version of the file does not have this problem. A better solution would be to use process explorer from sysinternals. It works with 98 and is a vast improvement over the built in tools in the OS. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb896653.aspx -

I have been dutiful, MDGx. I have an issue to report concerning a DLL from the RICHED9X.EXE update. Using Miranda (the current ANSI version - 0.7.1), I get the following message when I click on a contact from my contacts list (in order to open a message window): The specified module could not be found (USP10.dll) The message appears only on the first occasion that I do this - not subsequently. The message window opens as normal after I dismiss the message, and I can continue without problem (at least I haven't discovered a problem yet). The usp10.dll 1.0626.5756.0 (vista_rtm.061008-1400) file IS buggy! I have encountered the same error while running ms word 2000, and ms powerpoint viewer 2003 refuses to start because of the buggy usp10.dll file. I have downgraded to an older version, 1.0420.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158) and everything works fine now. Please update your RICHED9X.EXE package to fix these bugs. I love your work MDgx, without you, windows 9x would be completely useless. -
I checked the files included in CRYPT9X.EXE and they are the same versions as the ones included in USP3.0A2. There's alot of files that gape updated and didn't put on his changelog.

Video drivers for NEW and OLD videocards

My brother is looking for drivers for his ati x1650xt agp. I'm sure he'll be glad to test them -
Wintop would be great. Tweakui would be nice as well. Isn't wmp 6.4 already installed by ie6sp1 though? Seems a little redundant.

The *.1700 explorer crashed on me when I was using winamp 5.35. It only happened once though, so it might be a one time thing. I don't have any problems with the taskbar with *.1710. But of course I run the taskbar in the default mode on the bottom. I wonder what if any difference there is between the two different builds. I will say that both *.17xx builds run far better than the one that came with win98se.

I noticed that you are using explorer.exe *.1700. This thread talks about the copy2gb fix vs the shell32.dll fix. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=84451
-
The Copy2GB patch is not necessary. The 634 version of the shell32.dll patch already fixes the copy 2gb bug. I tried the copy2gb patch a while ago. It caused unusual behavior on my computer. It also changed the buttons, which I didn't like. About the Enable48bitLBA, the readme says that if used on smaller drives, it might cause data corruption. If these patches must be included, maybe an option not to install them should be avaliable.
