  3. No, I won't upgrade when it comes out. I'm gonna wait awhile. Vista runs very fast on my brand new laptop. I have no issues with it. The only thing I liked about Windows 7 is the theme. That's not worth the cost of upgrading when I just paid nearly $800 for a new laptop less than 4 months ago. Plus vista sp2 meets all my needs. No reason to waste money on the latest stuff to end up with the same results. I went from 98se to xp the day it was released and the performance was about the same which is what I'm getting with vista and windows 7. No difference performance wise. I will save my money and wait.
  4. You can use your original vista disks with the key on the bottom of your laptop to do a fresh install. Here's what I did: I purchased a compaq laptop in february that had vista home premium on it and all the bloated crap that hp decided to install on it. Well, I had purchased vista ultimate from circuit city a month before that. I wiped out the hard drive, started the install and entered my vista home premium key in during the installation and it installed a fresh copy of vista home premium on my laptop. All you have to do is go through the activation process once you get to your desktop. I've redone this several times and it worked each time. Don't know about using a friend's disc. I'll let someone else weigh in on that one.
  5. Hi Guys, I see that a lot of new builds have leaked (according to windows7news.com) and I was wondering if any of the TMPGEnc Products will work on windows 7 yet. I'm mainly wondering about TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress. The last one I used was 7100 that I got from the windows 7 main site and It didn't work. ******************************If this is in the wrong section I apologize******************************
  6. Thanks! I'm gonna run this now. I'll let you if it detects anything.
  7. I made a thread at lunarsoft: http://www.lunarsoft.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=3866 Maybe they can help us figure out what it is.
  8. thanks Fox Mulder! I'll post the results as soon as I get them.
  9. It has to be related to malware because I can't change any settings in Ad-Aware 2008. I'm gonna run it in safe mode and see if I can get some answers. BTW...Didn't know there were malware forums. Can you recommend one?
  10. found this....... (32 and 64 bit version) http://www.deviantart.com/download/1242274...cclloyd9785.rar or http://cclloyd9785.deviantart.com/art/UxTh...a-SP2-124227483
  11. Thanks for the response. This file popped up when I started my pc. I wasn't connected to the internet and didn't have any torrents downloading. I opened the txt file and this is what in it: 4,0,1,7fa0370,0,0,0,cb,cb 4,1,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 4,2,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 4,3,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 13,0,1,7fa0370,0,0,0,cb,cb 13,1,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 13,2,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 26,0,1,7fa0370,0,0,0,cb,cb 26,1,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 26,2,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 26,3,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 26,0,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 26,0,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 26,0,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 26,0,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 26,0,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 26,0,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 26,1,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 26,2,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 26,3,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb 26,0,1,7fa0370,2,0,cb,cb,cb I don't know what to make of this. Do I need to re-install vista again?
  12. Sometimes I get a files on my C:\ drive called "drivertimer.txt". I don't know what it is. Is this a bad file? I just formatted and re-installed vista this weekend and I don't have any viruses on my pc. Does anyone else get this file?
  13. Found this article on cnn.com today: http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/biztech/05/12...ows7/index.html Just thought I would share it with you guys
  14. I'm pretty sure this is something simple that I have overlooked. Is there a way to stop those windows from popping up when you place your cursor on an item in the desktop?
  15. EDIT: didn't see that it was for build 7000....
  16. As I was downloading the latest update for ad-aware se pro today I read on their site that they are going to stop giving definition updates for the program at the end of the month : http://www.lavasoft.com/mylavasoft/company/blog The only solution is to upgrade. Now, I've tried the latest free version of their program on my new laptop and it always freezes and I have to restart it. Keep in mind...these are my specs: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition SP1 64-Bit Version 2.00 GHz AMD Athlon X2 QL-62 Dual-Core Processor 1MB L2 Cache 4 GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce 8200M (Up to 895MB Video Memory) 250GB Hard Drive (5400RPM) SuperMulti 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support 15.6" Diagonal High Definition HP BrightView Display (1366x768) 56k modem NIntegrated 10/100 Ethernet LAN 802.11b/g WLAN 5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader There's no reason this pc should freeze up and it only freezes with the latest version. The one time it didn't freeze up it took over 7 hours to scan my pc. Ad-Aware Se scanned my pc in 30 minutes and found more spyware than the latest version. So It looks like I'm gonna have to switch before the end of the month . Can anyone recommed a good program?
  17. Thanks for clearing that up. Sorry bout the siggy. I'll fix it.
  18. I upgraded the memory in my laptop from 2gb to 4gb today. Now I thought that 32-Bit operating systems only read 3gb of ram. Can someone explain to me why mine reads 4gb while I'm running the 32-bit os? I thought I had to install the 64-bit version to do this. Screenshot: http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/81/winvi32pk6.jpg
  19. Thanks for telling me this. I did not know that.
  20. For you perhaps. I first installed Vista x86 after SP1 came out, and I've never, ever had any of those issues. In fact, on many file operations, it's noticeably faster. Either ways, I certainly wouldn't want to run Vista on 512MB, much less the x64 version (6GB here, moving up to 8GB in a few days). In fact, I wouldn't even want to run XP on that much... Buy some more RAM if you don't like having a slow PC. Oh, and BTW, most external drives are kind of slow (USB2 controllers are like that, most of such devices top around 30-some MBs/sec in real-life, nothing to do with Vista). I'm not gonna run it on 512MB. I'm not crazy. I just got this laptop last week from a co-worker and I plan on upgrading the memory next friday. I just had a vlited vista disc handy so I installed it and put all my programs on there so I didn't have to do that next week.
  21. Thanks for the reply. I'm using vista business 32-bit (vlited) now. I kept hearing so much about x64 that I thought I would jump in and see what all the fuss is about, but if it's as slow as you're saying it is w/ copying and extracting files and uses more memory to function I think I need to hold off. Vista x86 is slow enough when It comes to copying files to my external drive. I don't need anything that goes slower.
  22. Hi Guys, Me Again , This time I don't have any problems Just some questions. I was playing around today when I think I discovered that my laptop can use the 64-bit version of vista (correct me if I'm wrong). http://img509.imageshack.us/my.php?image=zxvzvec1.jpg If this is true I'm wondering if it's worth it to switch from the 32-bit version of vista to the 64-bit version, and if someone here knows about the wow emulator (I think that's what it's called) that can run 32-bit programs on a 64-bit pc. Now these are my current settings: 1.8 GHz AMD Turion64 Mobile ML-32 Processor Seagate Momentus 80GB HardDrive (5400RPM) 512 MB DDR RAM PIONEER DVR-K16 8x DVD-RW Drive ATI Mobility Radeon Xpress 200 Series (128 Dedicated, 256 Shared Video Memory) Conexant AC-Link Audio Driver The only thing that will change is my memory. I'm buying 2GB of ram in a few days (called HP tech support todat and they said that I can go any higher). Is it worth the switch?
  23. I plan on going up to 2GB of ram this week. I didn't realize that the AMD processor would outperform the P4, but it clearly has. I may stick with AMD from now on.
  24. The power supply went out on the intel.............or should I say It caught on fire when I tried to turn it on today. Good point. Maybe there was some more things wrong with it than I knew about. Ok, I'll stop thinking about this and just use the laptop.
  25. I had a HP-Compaq desktop (that died today) with these settings: Intel Pentium 4 HT 2.8 Ghz Processor (Single Core) 2 Ghz DDR RAM (Can Go Up To 4GB) Western Digital 160 GB Hard Drive (7200 RPM) Lite-On DH20A4P 16X DVD-RW Drive Intel® 82865G Graphics Controller (96MB Video Memory) SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio and I just purchased an HP Pavilion laptop this week with these settings: 1.8 GHz AMD Turion64 Mobile ML-32 Processor Seagate Momentus 80GB HardDrive (5400RPM) 512 MB DDR RAM (Can Go Up To 2GB) PIONEER DVR-K16 8x DVD-RW Drive ATI Mobility Radeon Xpress 200 Series (128 Dedicated, 256 Shared Video Memory) Conexant AC-Link Audio Driver What I'm wondering is why the AMD laptop seems to works so much better than the Intel Desktop (tried xp and vista on both). I would think the one with more memory and a better processor would work better. Now I don't know anything about AMD processors as this is my first pc with one. I've always thought Intel Processors were better than AMD and have avioded AMD for awhile. My games run smoother on the laptop and everything seems to work much faster than on the desktop even with less memory. Is there a reason for this?
