Please explain some thing more about Ur problem.

If U want to install Windows Vista Basic from Harddisk, U must have another OS or WinPE to boot and then locate Ur Vista Source and start installation.

there is no problem

i have a cd written wat i want to do is that to install vista home (both basic & premium)from harddisk using CD/RW but no DVD rom .plzz tell me the procedure of that

stuff i got

1)vista home dvd image

2)bootable cd (dos)

now u just have to tell me steps of installing this new OS .i searched it on net but instructions were available for vista ultimate

now i am waiting for my answer

same applies for Home basic too

just mount the DVD image with Deamon Tools

run setup

answer the qns, anter cdkey (or leave for later)

when said reboot just do that

it contiues

no i want to a clean install of that

i mean

1)boot to dos

2)format c:

3)now install vista home from dos

don't ask why or suppose i have a pc without any win & i got vista home in its harddisk & a bootable cd & no dvd rom

Oh I have got it ... U are facing the same as I had since a long time ago.

1) Extract Ur DVD image into a folder named as Vista at the root of X: drive according to Ur choice.

2) Make a bootable CD using Vista Source (leave the Install.win)

CDIMAGE v2.52

try this new one cdimage v2.52

cdimage -m -u2 -bD:\Vista\boot\etfsboot.com D:\Vista\ D:\Vistax86.iso

(where D:\Vista is the location where U have to copy vista source without install.wim)

U can Use Ur drive there is not matter of drive letter.

3) Boot with CD and goto Repair Option

4) Start Command Prompt and locate Ur Installtion Source like that

CD X:\Vista\Soruces

After this U will find X:\Vista\Sources\

type setup and hit enter to run setup from HDD source and perform Installation.

Do the same as for x86 version....

make bootable CD of x64 contents (required to start installtion)

Copy the installation source into HDD

I hav tested myself and working perfect for both versions

Use ISO Buster to extract boot image from x64 DVD. replace this one with etfsboot.com in procedure

I haven't tried this yet but I really think it should work: If you are trying to install from an HDD with no OS present (except for a partition that contains Vista install files), then make a Grub4Dos floppy. Add the following to your menu.lst:

title Install Vista from HDD
find --set-root /bootmgr
chainloader /bootmgr

This will search for bootmgr and kickstart Vista install.

If, on the other hand, you already have Vista or XP installed, then follow the guide here to make Grub4Dos your bootmanager. Then add the lines above to your menu.lst and it will add "Install Vista..." to your menu.

Reason I'm sure this will work is because I have been able to boot Windows PE 2.0 and VistaPE using this method. Windows PE also uses the "bootmgr" to boot WinPE. So does Vista install and VistaPE. So does the actual Vista OS itself - they all use bootmgr. See here for Windows PE booting with Grub4Dos.

Moreover, you don't have to format the partition any special way. I have booted VistaPE from a partition that already had data on it. I simply copied my VistaPE ISO files to this partition (NTFS), then added the above lines to my menu.lst and it worked fine. I've tried FAT32 as well and it also works.

Making Grub4Dos your bootmanager will benefit in other ways as well once your try it.

I wonder if this resemble much what I used to do wind WIn98, to boot with CD or Floppy, and then copy the Win98 folder to the HDD and after that in DOS type c:win98/setup.exe (enter)

But with Vista will be C:vista/setup.exe??
