Hi,

I'm running on my machine Symantec Client Security Corporate Edition since while... it works like a charme.

Today, i wanted testing the latest Norton appz (Norton Internet Security 2007 and SYMANTEC NORTON 360), can't install any on my VMware machine. I get "Setup cannot be installed because there was a problem authenticating your Windows Installer" (see here bellow attached image).

Anyone can help???

I got that too, and the same thing happened when I tried to apply the fix found on Google for that error message. Solution? Avoid the product.

While I wouldn't really condone "testing" various products without using valid trial editions, I would agree that Norton products usually aren't worth your time.

just want to jump on the bandwagon and say I agree that Norton software is a waste of time and money.

Anyway a quick google search for that phrase returns the following:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/share...pen&src=_mi

which leads to a bat file to 'fix' Windows Cryptographic Services:

@echo Stop the Cryptographic Services

net stop cryptsvc

@echo Rename the Microsoft catalog directory.

@echo This will be rebuilt automatically when we restart the Cryptographic Services

ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2-old

@echo Unregister all DLL's related to Crytographic Services

regsvr32 /s /u softpub.dll

regsvr32 /s /u wintrust.dll

regsvr32 /s /u initpki.dll

regsvr32 /s /u dssenh.dll

regsvr32 /s /u rsaenh.dll

regsvr32 /s /u gpkcsp.dll

regsvr32 /s /u sccbase.dll

regsvr32 /s /u slbcsp.dll

regsvr32 /s /u mssip32.dll

regsvr32 /s /u cryptdlg.dll

@echo Re-register all DLL's related to Crytographic Services

regsvr32 /s softpub.dll

regsvr32 /s wintrust.dll

regsvr32 /s initpki.dll

regsvr32 /s dssenh.dll

regsvr32 /s rsaenh.dll

regsvr32 /s gpkcsp.dll

regsvr32 /s sccbase.dll

regsvr32 /s slbcsp.dll

regsvr32 /s mssip32.dll

regsvr32 /s cryptdlg.dll

@echo Start the Cryptographic Services

net start cryptsvc

@echo Done.

The above didn't resolve the issue for me when I dared try the trial product in VMware, either. I believe Dial-A-Fix does the same thing to the same files as well.

TNX all for yr help!!!

As i wrote here above I'm usually running Symantec Client Security Corporate Edition on my machine for a while and i'm really satisfied with.

Regarding the latest Norton valid trial editions (Norton Internet Security 2007 and SYMANTEC NORTON 360), I'm NOT considering to install them on my machine. I just want testing how they works. In that order i tested their installation on a VMware (virtual machine). Maybe Symantec Norton does not designed those latest appz for a virtual machine.

Anyone got a success installation on a NON virtual machine?

Strangely, I easily install the here above Symantec Client Security or Antivirus Corporate Edition.
