Integrating KB928090 over IE7

1. Extract IE7 setup package

Forgot code to extract because already extracted

2. Extract IE7-KB928090-WindowsXP-x86-esn.exe

FOR %%I IN (*.exe) DO IF NOT EXIST %%~nI ECHO %%~nI&%%I /Q /X:%%~nI

3. Overwrite all files from KB928090 in IE7 with the same name.

4. Move on to update directory on both.

5. Copy kb928090-ie7.cat from KB928090\update to IE7\update

6. Merge contents of update.ver files. That is: entries with the same name from KB928090\update\update.ver replaces entries in IE7\update\update.ver

7. Some registry entries still should be added for KB928090 don't show up.

Resulting update.ver and KB928090-IE7.inf registry entries attached (Spanish)

KB928090_IE7.zip

HIGHLY batchable, but don't wait for me... I did it by hand.

nope, KB929969 (VML) left out.

And KB915865-v11 (alias xmllitesetup) still needed

You're discussing the integration of a hotfix, I am trying to identify whether or not it results in KB917425 and KB928089 no longer being required and believe other forum members would benefit from this knowledge.

Isn't KB917425 only for IE6 before the June 2006 security update? If I'm mistaken, can someone point me to a link for IE7?

I dont understand why ms aint going to fix the problems we got? i mean why all those guides and fixes, could be alot more easy if one figured out how to integrate ie7/w patches and i wudnt break runonceex and never had to touch old ie6 dlls again!.

If theres any out there with a good common fix please let me know, thank !

The reason RunOnceEx was "broken" was because IE no longer requires someone to log in after install and reboot for IE to finish installing, and therefore this functionality was no longer needed. The IE development team therefore deprecated the functionality, and it no longer works exactly the way it did in IE6 - however, I've heard this works. I've not tested it, but the posts there seem to indicate that this is the way to do it (although I'd suggest looking for alternatives, because it'll be completely removed sometime in the future, I'd bet).
