Thumbdrive getting very hot.

The cable is just a standard cable, I don´t see why it could be the cable. It should give 5Volts on pin 1, -D (data), +D (data) and the last pin 0Volts. You could check it with a voltage-meter on the pin-contacts.

Are you sure this doesn't happen with any other thumb drives? I know my OCZ Rally gets warm when it's plugged in, but it does this on all computers.

It shouldn't be burning hot, but warm is fine.
