Many IR systems can switch from "white hot" to "black hot" depending on the target and surroundings to provide greater contrast or to highlight something. This becomes more difficult if IR crossover is an issue.

Kinda white at the beginning and darker at the edges?The reason im saying this, is because air does cool down fairly quickly (as does methane )
