IcemanND
I work for a hotel and they would like to provide a means for guests to print documents from their own computers. The majority of machines are Windows something, with a spattering of Macs that guests bring. The key being it needs to be a simple as possible. If at all possible without installing drivers on the guest machine. I was thinking, or maybe hoping, there was something like submit a document to a website and it either holds it until released or just prints it.Any suggestions appreciated. Jeremy
I'm assuming all the PCs in the hotel are all on the same network? If so, people can type up or transfer any printable source they wish and as long as the printer is on the network as well, they could send the document to that printer. IcemanND
Ummm, yes all of the guests are either on wireless or wired networks. The guests bring their own machines. What we would like to do is let the guest print from their own computer in as minimally invasive a process as possible. The hotel machines already print to any number of networked printers in the facility. It's the guest we are after providing the service for.
LLXX
The best solution would be to allow PostScript files to be uploaded, since most laser printers can print PostScript directly.

Seen anything out there I can get info on?ThanksYes, directly to the printer, many network-enabled printers already have a web interface. Some network administrators apparently didn't realise that... and their printer is now available to the whole world to use! http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/index.php/id...722;fp;2;fpid;1http://utterlyboring.com/archives/2005/01/...nd_printers.php Edited December 3, 2006 by LLXX
ethanmcf
i will have my say in it then, being a MCSA you get asked this all the time.As long as the printer is shared on the network, its possible, even easier is that it is a network printer, if this is so then you can just use the web bassed interface. to connect to the printerhope this helps, and i havnt read the whole post. just to let you know ThanksEthan. ringfinger
I too am in the hotel business and support 1500 guest rooms all with internet connections. Our sister property in Florida uses a web based program linked to a couple of redundant printers at our front desk. The guest uploads their document to this site, the site gives them a 5 digit alpha numeric code, they walk to the FD, enter the code on the printer and their doc prints. Unfortunately I don't have a name of the company or system ATM but I can get it.
IcemanND
Once I finally figured out the correct search terms I found four different devices/applications to do this. I'm still waiting to hear back from the vendors about pricing and possible trials. But for the next person who finds this thread and wants to do the same thing.PrinterOn - http://www.printeron.net/solutions/getting...s_printing.html They seem to be the most wide spread provider in this market. cost is approx $600 a year depending upon the level of service required.PrintMe - http://www.efi.com/products/corporate/efi-printme/Print-4 - http://altimaone.com/products/driverless_p...driverless.htmlFollowMe - http://www.hpgsc.com/hiturl.cfm?SOLUTIONID=1370I'll post more info as I collect it. ethanmcf
do you have a network printer?
IcemanND
how about 14 of them, just in this building.
ethanmcf
Well if they link up Via Ethernet or are already wi-fi ready, they will have an IP address, and the users can simply type that IP Address into their Web broweser, and access the printe that way, becuase the Drivers will then be addedd from the printer itself, so basically Driver Less, and this is also Free Hope this HelpsEthan. IcemanND
not if the user does not have admin rights. can't add a printer without either special permissions, or admin rights. common problem with guests visiting using corporate machines. ethanmcf
erm .... can you temp elevate their permissions, to just USE Printer, and not COntrol printer?
IcemanND
We are talking about GUESTS in a hotel. How can I elevate their permissions? These are not my machines they belong either to the user or the company they work for. The whole point is to make it as painless and simple as possible.Basically all four products I posted earlier you either visit a website and submit the document or send an email to a specific address. your are then given a release code you use when you go to the printer to finish printing your documents.
