pat7465 Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 B) hi i am newbie Pat I bought a SATA drive and installed it as a second drive to my ATA, my ASUS mother board is capable of both types but my BIOS nor XP recognize it, any suggestions?
ripken204 Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 what mobo and sata drive did you get? if it is a sataII hdd then you may have to change the jumper on it to make it sata1 mode as your mobo may not support sataII.
nitroshift Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Did you initialise and format it??The BIOS would still see it. LLXX is right, make sure you enabled the SATA function of the chipset in the BIOS.
ripken204 Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Ensure SATA Controller is enabled in BIOS.ya i though about that one too but i figured that he would have know if he had disabled it before...
LLXX Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 What is the chipset? Different chipsets have different ways of handling SATA/PATA configuration.
puntoMX Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 And there is the Maxtor with nVidia GF 4/410 chipset problem. Still not fixed on some drives...
ripken204 Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 And there is the Maxtor with nVidia GF 4/410 chipset problem. Still not fixed on some drives...ya thats what im waiting for, lol. but it looks likes he's forgotten about us
Andromeda43 Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 If abled up, the mobo will see the SATA drive, but unless it's at least partitioned, windows cannot see it.Then, once its partitioned, windows would tell you that the disk is not formatted and offer to format it for you. But,,,,,,I'd just boot up that system with my Windows ME disk and run FDISK on that drive, then format it in DOS from the same boot disk. Then I'd know for sure that the mobo is properly addressing the drive and that the drive is working properly. That's how I set up my new 160 gig Maxtor SATA drive when I first got it.Like so many things "Computer", it takes some tools and the expertise to properly use them. Andromeda43 B)
