Speaker Problems

Hey all,

The problem is, when my speakers are not being used they give off a fast buzzing (sounds like a machine gun) noise and when music or sound is played, it becomes muffled.

I have tried plugging speakers into my computer but it also happens through them.

is it a possible problem with the sound card?

There's nothing wrong with the pc. That buzzing is due to faulty power filtration of the speakers. Usually a capacitor in the power unit of the speakers is either dry or dead. Any local electronic service shop will get them fixed in no-time.

I have just replaced the speakers with some different ones and the same noise is happening...

Anyy other advice as to what it could be?

If the buzzing sound is still there, maybe trickytwista was right... Update your drivers and see what happens.

dunno but it does seems like its a dodgy driver from what i read. made any changes recently or has it always done it?

i dont think i made any changes... what happend was one night i turned my pc on (they were working fine earlier that day) then a buzzing just came thru the speakers, now it wont go away >_<

I also tried updating my driver but still no luck...

Do you have onboard sound? Else I would say replace that sound card. It could be the connector but it sounds more like your speakers blew up your sound chip with a discharge.

just plug the speakers into a cd player or mp3 player, that way you can rule out the computer being at fault.

i just tested out my speakers with my ipod and they r fine so that must mean that my sound card needs replacing right?

what sound cards do both of the computer have? and are you using the latest drivers?

Are the speakers and the computer plugged into the same outlet (or preferably, through the same surge suppressor)? This buzzing may be caused by something known as a "ground loop", i.e. the voltage levels between outlets vary slightly that there is a constant current through the speaker cable at rest.

Check if your "Line-In" is muted. If it is, unmute it.
