WGA Soon to be Shutting down your PC.

Here in the USA it seems we put up with this kind of crap all the time. If anything is going to be done regarding WGA, it'll happen in Europe where end users' rights are a little better protected. Although with some of the DMCA-like activity over there recently, I'm not holding my breath either.

For the record, I've already encountered multiple workstations that are legit and they register as not legit. Thus far Microsoft has not provided any solution other than to complete reinstall. Nice :puke:

i cant find the source for this, so you can beleve it or not, but MS people have already said that any system running windows belongs to them.
WTF? It's my hardware, I paid for it!

I think a mass migration to Linux, or mass cracking, will probably take place if M$ started shutting down their users's computers. They simply don't have the permission to do so.

Heard about it, I think Microsoft is going way to far. I paid for the **** OS, what more do they want? First we have spyware, great. Blocked it with my firewall, Microsoft has no right collecting information from my computer. Now they are releasing a "kill switch"? What about people with legit copies of Windows and this WGA crap doesn't verify it as legit?

Microsoft has gone way to far this time.

Since when Microsoft owns my computer? Screw them. They don't own any of my hardware. If Microsoft keeps this up they will lose support and customers. I'm stuck with Windows because thats the only OS that runs most applications.

You know what i like about Macro$haft? The fact that they're on top in the desktop OS market. Why do i like that? Because when you're on top, there's only ONE way to go... and it ain't up!

firts of all sorry 4 my poor english...

..this seems to be both head and tail in microsoft hands. if they want to use WGA to shutdown pc if they found pirated copy...they are free to do so (even they are free to low level formatting, partation deletion, block downloads from their site, whatever they can imagine they are free to do that with pirated copies afterall WGA/windows is their methos/technology/trademark etc etc... but i think they should not ban RE (reverse engineering),keygens or crack or nor they can make any legel action ..infact they can evaluate their product or find loopholes throught these tools in order to make their product more secure. WGA is totally USELESS for me and many more users. im 100% able to bypass WGA till now (1st july 2006, 12:47 AM) i cann't make gurantee for future. WGA has developed by many paid programmers (of course genius programmers of microsoft ) but a undergraduate student is able to defeat their WGA with the help of many tools...VERY SHAME !!! VERY SHAME !!! they can hire me to test their online security/validation of their products HA HA HA im just joking.. i joined this org yesterday and found very interesting to share my thoughts...thanks msfn...

This is why you gotta stick to Win2k

OR

and I hope the mods don't take this wrong, find a way to circumvent Windows Genuine PITA.

This piece of crap from M$ is spyware, doesn't belong on a machine.

Actually, Micro$oft has instructions on their site for removing the Windows Genuine Annoyance: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921914

Along with a rather interesting note:

Important These instructions have not been tested on the general release version of the WGA Notifications. Therefore, these instructions are not supported.

Well, how about this: I own xp media center and xp pro, both from the same shop. i'm using mce and i put the pro version on my cousin's pc. i haven't got any problems with my pc but got a call a few days ago from my cousin to tell me about wga which is bugging him every start-up. remember: PAID copy of win xp pro, bought from a serious computer shop, in its box, watermarked cd!!!!! HA! I tend to agree now with |-|ackers and [rackers (sorry mods, please remove if offensive). Get a life, M$ people. I bought my pc, paid for it so NO-ONE owns my pc but me and only me. And if I'll ever run into my cousin's trouble, it will probably be bye bye blue, red, green and yellow and welcome penguin! That said, I rest my case...
