Hey guys,

I have a PCI card (Firewire card) and no PCI clots left but I have PCIE slot.

So my Question is will my PCI card work in a PCIE slot work?

Its a total different socket, the ridges are different...so i very much doubt it..

But theres 2 slots on the PCI card theres not one like on regular ones it will fit because its dose line up with the slots on the PCIE slot.

it wont work because they are two different types. PCIE uses a different method to access the card, and is much faster. It was never designed to be backwards compaitble for use with PCI cards, it wa sdesigned to replace PCI architecture.

its like saying the floppy drive cable will fit in the IDE connector for a hard drive, it physically fits but the pin configuration is different.

But PCIE is for high speed device

It won't work, no matter how much you want it too period. Unless you enjoy the sadomasochist way of watching smoke come out of the chip. The pinout for voltages and signals are way different and that's not even counting the timing speed of the card. Look below.

I'd say that anyome who calls himself 'computerMan' and decides to force i/o cards into incompatible slots is setting himself up for what he deserves.

It just wont work mate, different connectin, different socket.

I had it many times people ordering PCI graphics card, expecting them to work in PCI-E slots...so many returns

I've seen pictures of adapters, but be warned that it could cause clearance issues.

Basically they're a riser card with a male PCIe connector, some circuitry to convert the signal, and a female PCI connector on top.

Ghe ghe, ofcaurse just buying a PCI-E Firewire card isn't an option,

a new motherboard might be a bit expensive -

Oh my word. I read through the replies here, and was just waiting to read the one where he fried his computer by trying it. I can't believe someone can ignore four posts in a row telling him it won't work before finally listening.

Like I said before, it is possible with the correct riser and bridge chip. But no, you can't plug a PCIe card directly into a PCI slot.
