nicolaas1
Half Life 2Yep it works under windows XP 64, but you have to let steam download all the patches. If that is done, it will run and even says that it is running on a 64bit pc.
Maleko
Patches are downloaded automatically through steam, so if it was downloading a patch he wouldnt be able to play the game, it would say availible to play in x minutes.

And mostley if you do an install form cd or dvd this will be the case.

Grunth0s
There is always the option that Steam is running in Offline Mode, in which case, nothing will download
Sars!
He didn't post his memory right? If hl2 encountered a memory (128 mb) problem it should be that...Though I don't expect he has less than 128 ramm! (There's standing available memory, since other programs take mem too, I also suggest to close other programs while trying to play HL2)Sars! offtopic: This game pwnz! I just love the Ravenholm lvl... Long time ago I played this game Edited May 22, 2006 by Sars!
