The LCD Im considering

I have been been searching for months now for a good all around LCD moniter. I am a gamer, designer and average computer user. But gaming is a big thing for me so the right quality is key.

In my searches i have been lead to NEC. I am a big fan of their CRTs and curently ue one in my home. It has loasted nearly 7 years to date. Aditional i work a a PC Club and have witnessed many LCDs in person, the NECs seem to sparkle above the rest, while still remaining decently priced.

The NEC MultiSync LCD1760NX-BK seems to have all the specs im after, i have seen the older model which uses analog, and it was **** near flawless...im thinking the added dvi will add a tad bit more clarity and color acuracy.

Tell me what you guys think

There's one thing we really like about the NEC MultiSync LCD1760NX: You can swivel its screen from side to side, while most only tilt forward and back. Otherwise, this 17-inch LCD fails to impress. Without intuitive controls and sufficient documentation, it's difficult to use. And though it performs well when displaying standard office apps, exhibiting excellent brightness and contrast ratios, it performed poorly on DisplayMate tests.

The button that launches the LCD1760NX's on-screen controls is labeled Exit. And that just begins to describe our difficulties. We needed several minutes to adjust the phase settings, and the installer CD fails to walk you through installing the driver, which you'll have dig up from the Web.

The real issues involved performance. We noted a color shift in DisplayMate—the same problem we saw with the 17-inch ViewSonic VG171. The NEC unit also had trouble displaying subtle shades and couldn't keep its pixels still during tests; we ended up fixing this problem by manually adjusting the monitor. At $550, the LCD1760NX isn't all that expensive, but you're better off with one of the other 17-inch models in this price range.

LG is definitely my personal LCD of choice. I own the 15 inch LG Flattron LCD 568LM. It is a gamers monitor. Games look great, but text pages sux. I do not use the DVI, but plan to get one later this year.

The above link is for the bigger monitor, but has some interesting comparisons. The reviewers were very surprised to say the least. So was I.

Some people do not know it but a 15 inch LCD is the same screen size as a 17 inch CRT. The 17 inch LCD screen size is the same as 19 inch CRT. Just something to know when buying a LCD.

i got myself LG L1710B LCD a month ago, and its great

both for games and documents

the texts are extra crisp

and the colors are amazing, i didnt even imagine that colors can be that good

anyway i heard NEC is good, althou i dont know anyone using it

I Looked into LGs...but none of their stats impressed me.....they either had a low contarats ration or their responce was 25ms plus!

Though the LG moniter stats confuse me slightly, they have Response Time,Rise Time, and Decay Time. i have only seen the first.

Im loking for somthing within the 16-20ms range with a 450:1 ratio

Further what gets me, is from what i understand, LG makes a loarge portion of the panels for many other companies that use 16-20ms responce....

can anyone help me out with that??

i just checked the specs, and it says for my monitor 16ms,

and it has 450:1 ratio.

i chose it because it had a very good review on pcworld.com and the price was very good, i wanted to get samsung but it was way too expencive, and this LG has a better review than the samsung, so i chose it, and very happy about it at the moment...

the review talks about tests for text and web, and doesnt review games, so may be you should check more reviews on it.

im quet happy with it for gaming (thou its at work so i dont play much, just sometimes after work), but i dont have another LCD to compare, all i have is CRT screens, or laptop screens, so you should check more into it for gaming....

here is pcworld's top 10 LCD screens, my monitor is on 6th place, NECs LCD similar model to the one you are considering is on 5th, but im not sure whats the difference between the models.

Very nice drew. I personally woudn't touch anything else besides Samsung only because I have seen the abuse they can handle.

Im still condiering a few.

But im going to order the NEC 1760nx and the Viewsonic VP171P for store demo units. Im gonna compare the two, then go from there.
