gdogg
where i'd be buying it.http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...oolIT%20Systemsreviewshttp://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1937683,00.asphttp://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-327-1.htmhttp://www.extrememhz.com/freezone-p1.shtmlI am gonna need a new heatsink anyway, due to the fact, I want to remove the IHS off my cpu, and that will make it so I cant use the clip designed coolers, like my si-120.I want 3.0 ghz on my opteron 165 , it can do a 2.8 ghz stable atm, but, I wanna see how far I can push it with, IHS off. you guys think this cooler will do the trick, better than a $300 water cooling kit? jaclaz
WHAT? 399 bucks for a cooler? You can save 10 bucks here:http://store.pcpowerzone.com/cofrcpuco.htmlBut still seems to me a bit pricey... I would rather use the good ol' beerbox cooling:http://www.ranish.com/beerbox/ jaclaz
ripken204
have u ever heard of phase change? i would go that route if i were you. peltier is dangerous if you cant remove the heat from the hot side fast enough.you can buy an already made one, i also know someone who makes them himself for much cheaper and they are much better. you can get temps from 0 to -100C depending on how much u wana spend.either way you go, make sure to insulate your motherboard. if u plan on running 24/7 then u will need to instulate the entire mobo
gdogg
yah, when ocz phase change comes out, ill look at that. I wonder if ocz, has condensation in mind, with there designs
ripken204
well do u mean if they will ship you the insulation materials? you cant make a phase change system itself prevent condenstaion, u can get close but it just wont happen. you will need to seal off the board from air... gdogg
so, I guess i'd be better off, just getting water cooling?cause this might condensate also?
ripken204
yes pelter/tec will still cause condensation. so watercooling will be the best choice.
DL.
Watercooling can also be quite dangerous for your hardware!I experienced a small leak (on the chipset-block) which damaged most of my hardware, I had to replace almost everything in the case (CPU, memory, hd, floppy and optical drives where the only components unharmed). I had to do some very extensive testing to find out exactly which components where damaged and which where not (some appeared to work at first, but I later found some problems that where quite hard to notice). The leak in the chipset-block was caused by using a more powerful pump than the one in the kit. spazmire11
if you do chose to do water cooling i recomend you build your own.custome kits are alot more efficient and most of the time will cool better then a pre built one.i belive it is posible to get a xp-120 or si-120 on a ihsles cpu however you have to be very carefull and i belive fille down the cpu socket header (the white part that says socket 939)
ripken204
you can get an si120 on, u just have to remove the entire cpu bracket first...
gdogg
hey ripken, you mean and then just use screws or something?I was thinking about, a custom kit, swiftech appogee, 2 5.25 bay res, 3 120mm fan rad, a 330gph pump, and that stuff, that when hit a video card, just made a mess of it, not killed.oh and a couple of danger den 78 series coolers for cpu and mem Edited March 20, 2006 by gdogg
ripken204
remove the bracket , attach the bracket to the si120, reattache bracketill give u a link when i find it
gdogg
ohhh, I see what your saying.so , i'd level off the bracket to make up for no IHS, like shown in many guides on dfi-street.then do as you said there?
ripken204
http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...3&highlight=ihsya, this is the oneif u try to mount it normally on a cpu without the ihs, you will crush it, so this is the way to do it.
