ok, my computer got messed up so i formated it but now whenever i install something (like microft office/windows updates), it takes sooooo long and it happens on everything i install, some eventually finsh but some frezze near the end. i would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help me out. btw im using win xp pro. :)


Ur partition(s) may hav been corrupted by a virus, I had the same prob with my machine recently and fixed it by repartitioning. Try repartitioning ur drive

ok, but i have 4 partitions, should i recreate them all?

yeh just to be sure, write down the sizes and that so u can recreate em how u want them

If that does not solve the problem give us more information. Specificaly, PC Specs, Did you do a clean installation or an overwrite?

Aye, re-partiting them would be your best idea... Then re-install etc...

If you do something for a first time like in stall a OS and stuff don't work, always re-do as sometimes files can get lost.

well, i didnt do it because i think its fixed. now thigns are fine. i just restarted and thigns were faster. :)

hopefully after i reboot things wont be slow again.

looks like when one proble is solved another one starts,

i had some ram lying so i decided to stick it in, once i booted into windows, after about 10 min. it restarted by itself.

it kept doing this so i switched the stick of ram for another one, and it restarted again after a while.

i took it out and left in the ram i had in the begining and everythign is fine.

does this mean both sticks of ram are bad? or that my last ram slot is bad?

well, may as well keep posting my problems in this thread, this one major, on another machien i have, i replaced the hard drive, it had a 10, i put in a 40, i need to install windows on the 40 i put in but i figured i would do it in dos, i hook it all up then turn it on but i get no visual, i have tried difrent video cards and difrent monitors but no success. thanks for all your help guys.
