MSN Messenger 6 ..

Every time me and my friend try to connect for file sharing, it sits and sits and sits, "Waiting for buddy's response". When my buddy is sitting parallel to me, and his says the same thing.

Does anyone know why its doing this?

Regards

When you say parallel, do you mean your buddy is on a LAN with you, and connected to the net?

File Sharing probably doesn't support a PC to PC connection on a LAN. But I'll try this out myself later. :)

If you share an Internet connection (as I do) you probably will not be able to SEND files, but only receive.

As it says on the MSN Messenger site:

File Transfer

If you use Internet connection sharing, you will not be able to send files using MSN Messenger. You will be able to receive them, but not send them.

I guess theres downsides to sharing an Internet connection at home :)

That can be bypassed by using a decent router, or a cheap box running a linux distro like Smoothwall, and forwarding ports 6891-6899 :)

We just have a gateway router connecting two computers to the Net.

I've never thought File Transfer on MSN was particularly fantastic anyway  :)

I beg to differ, I sent an entire 40 GB hard drive, 37 GB of it full, from one of my PCs to the one downstairs successfully. Didn't take very long either, 1.5 mbps cable and a wireless linksys router.

I was about to say "You Americans have everything"...

But then I looked at your flag and... shock... horror... your not from AMERICA :)

Looks like its just the UK that has practically NOTHING then
