LLXX
Centrino includes a Pentium M.See here for some details: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=63102
Wicket20519
What LLXX said. Centrino is just some kind of marketing scheme by Intel. Something about friggin' lazer beams on top of their friggin' heads...
spapps
Centrino is dedicated more mobility and wireless (longer battery life, better wireless support)Pentium M has dual core I believe. I have a centrino myself from a P4 laptop as a replacement from SUCKY dell....centrino is also much faster, it is efficient.a Centrino 1.7GHz is equivilent to a P4 2.4GHz
nmX.Memnoch
The Pentium M isn't dual core. It's the CPU part of the Centrino package. As for it being faster than a P4...that all depends on what you're doing with it. It has a relatively "weak" FPU so anything math intensive isn't going to be as fast as a P4 (which doesn't exactly have the best FPU either). It has many less stages to it's processing pipeline and that's what makes it faster in certain operations."Centrino" is a brand name that incorporates the use of specific hardware. Namely a Pentium M CPU along with the use of certain chipsets and certain wireless network cards. The specific combinations of hardware are "Centrino certified" to get the best mix of performance, mobility, battery life, and connectivity.A Centrino setup can be used for gaming if it's paired with a decent video card. I'm typing this on a Centrino based laptop right now with a 1.86GHz/2MB Cache Pentium M and 2x512MB DDR2-533. This laptop just has the i915G graphics controller but a better video card would certainly have me playing some of the newer games on the market. As for the wireless from city to city, that all depends on what sort of WiFi they have setup and what you pay to access it. Some of the mobile phone companies such as Verizon offer mobile broadband but I haven't tried any of them so I don't know how reliable or fast they are. There are coming technologies, such as WiMax, that are aimed at bringing wireless broadband into areas that are currently limited to dialup connectivity...they may also address the "always connected" issue.More about Centrino here:http://www.intel.com/centrino/
spapps
sorry your right about the dual core part, havent slept at all last night - still up.However I think it is pretty speedy compared to P4 - not that I have anything against it
suryad
It is speedy cause it has a shorter pipeline. the Pentium M is based on the P3 as all new Intel procs after the P4 coming out this year are gonna be.
