Unless you provide the actual evidence to back it up, the allegation is unfounded.

VMWare does connect to the net when it starts up, for VNet's IPs and connecting to VMWare homepage. It even saves a cookie.

It's a .hta script so why didn't you open it up in e.g. Notepad and examine it?

The following line appears in it a few times...

ping -n 1 127.0.0.1>nul

I have no idea why a CAB processor would need to ping the localhost.

As for "phoning home", there is one embedded URL:

A CAB file is nothing but a big ZIP file.

And, you want a zip file with the .cab extension instead of the .zip extension.....WHY?

I think I'd use zip or rar and be done with it.

I did the same when it happened to me in this post here.

All this because he could not read the hta in notepad, but then again it takes some intelligence to read things. I do not code to wreck machines I code to help people, to say what you shows how little you know about scripts and the members here. Since I have now over 900 posts and have been a member here for a while, the SFX, HTA, VBS scripts are totally safe to use. Since I have not recieved any complaints about the stuff I posted here, or there are not any warings about my SFX,HTA,VBS scripts, only a moron would say what you did.

This is to slow the script down that all nothing more since I do not use Sleep.exe as that has to be added to XP for it to work.

This is for the icon, that the HTA uses. I do not like the default one that a hta uses.
