Installed in fresh system restore on IBM Inspirati 2000 (model 2622CD)

Several issues:

1) 918547un.inf not found (during install)

2) error registering OCX c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\jscript.dll (during install)

3) windows could not upgrade the file %1 from %2 %1: %2 (on restart)

4) RUNDLL: Error loading C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\NMMKCERT.DLL SYSTEM CANNOT FIND THE FILE SPECIFIED (after restart from "Add/Remove Software"->"WindowsComponents" )

5) similar message to #4 re:netmeeting

6) can't run QFECHECK (is this an add-on?) file is not found using start->search

#1,2,3: known issues. #1 will be fixed in the next version. don't know any fix for #2,3

#4,5: Please elaborate.

#6: will look into it for you. It is part of the main options. I might've just forgot to change the .inf's.

Failed LoadLibrary(...) for jscript.dll, vbscript.dll and wshom.ocx

Solution: i replaced with old files 5.6.0.8832, 5.6.0.8829 and 5.6.0.8825 and re-registering.

4) RUNDLL: Error loading C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\NMMKCERT.DLL SYSTEM CANNOT FIND THE FILE SPECIFIED (after restart from "Add/Remove Software"->"WindowsComponents" )

These occurred after the SP install was fully completed. I proceeded to remove the unnecessary programs via "Add/Remove Programs"->"Windows Setup" including removing NetMeeting. While starting up after the obligatory restart I received the two error dialogs mentioned above.

The second dialog (#5 above) I did not copy out as it referred to NetMeeting which I knew I had just had removed (bad assumption which I will blame on lack of sleep). Actually, the only "similarity" to the dialog in #4 that I can be sure of is that it was an error dialog.

The first dialog (#4 above) seems to reference a DLL used by NetMeeting http://www.bold-fortune.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=997 , though it puzzles me why it would be referenced by RUNDLL on that restart.

Neither dialog has returned.

I may decide to do the whole process over again since the system restore disk requires very little user input. Any suggestions for monitoring tools if I do that?

hmm, weird. Is QFECheck.exe installed in the Windows folder? the ME service pack should have installed that file under there.

also, the ROOTSUPD.EXE file needs to be updated. New ROOTSUPD.EXE file I downloaded [234kb] has newer IE certificates than one found in beta 7. should be included in next release.

It seems jscript.dll 5.6.0.8833 needs a version 7 of Msvcrt.dll and you can only run Msvcrt.dll version 6 on 9x.

Jscript.dll 5.6.0.8833 is not meant for 9x OSes, works [and regsvr32-s] properly only with 2000/XP/2003.

The last official jscript.dll that works properly with 98/98SE/ME is 5.6.0.8831 :

the_guy should be able to fix this easily. the ME SP should have installed QFECHECK.EXE in the WINDOWS folder.

yup, QFECHECK.EXE, for some reason, was not included in ME Service pack beta 7. if that EXE file was in there, the SPUPDATE.INF file made no reference to install it. The [Machine] section of SPUPDATE.INF file should list QFECHECK.EXE. If it isnt there, then it should be added on there in the next release. files from [Machine] section get installed onto the "Windows" folder

this issue also can be fixed easily. remove ALL references to 918547UN.INF from the SPUPDATE.INF file as the 918547UN.INF file no longer exists.

weird, I did not have those problems on my WinME computer

workaround: do NOT install nor remove Netmeeting after installing the ME service pack. after installing the ME SP, REBOOT your WinME computer ASAP. after WinME reloads, then un-install Netmeeting from Add/Remove programs.

for ME, I just install/update the Netmeeting app with v4.40.3399 as mentioned in security bulletin MS04-011.

JSCRIPT.DLL 5.7.0.5730 from IE 7.0 has no unresolved dependencies. It also registers under SE. Same with VBSCRIPT.DLL 5.7.0.5730. I rarely use IE, so I couldn't swear that they're absolutely safe, but they seem to be working so far.

I'll consider it.

If that works, I can just get newer builds of all script files from vista rc2 (build 5744). I have an RC1 (that's right, RC!) release imminent. I just broke qfecheck detection, so that'll be fixed before I make a new release.
