Hi everyone,

I downloaded the updates according to the initial post regarding the latest post-sp4 updates for windows 2000, however when I try to run them some of them I get the following:

"Windows2000-KBXXXXXX-x86-ENU.EXE is not a valid win32 application."

Out of all of the updates the following yield the same message:

KB901017

KB905749

KB911280-v2

KB917008

KB917537

KB920213

KB923191

KB923689

and rootsupd.exe

Why does this happen and how do I over come that? Any help is much appreciated.

Compare the md5 hashes for those fixes to the list posted in this forum.

anyone can help me to give latest patch & hot fix list ( all) for slip strem win2ksp4 by HF-SLIP including IE 6 slipstream

it will be better pls give details list of HFSLIP folder structure & file list like TECH269 posted.

I have a suggestion. Instead of deleting obsolete entries from the list, cross off the obsolete entries and add a note (enclosed in parentheses) indicating what newer patch it is superseded by. That would make it much easier for us to keep track of the changes.

For example:

June 2005:

896358 - MS05-026: A vulnerability in HTML Help could allow remote code execution

896422 - MS05-027: Vulnerability in Server Message Block could allow remote code

(Replaced by ?????? , released ??/200?)

890046 - MS05-032: A vulnerability in Microsoft Agent could allow spoofing

(Replaced by 920213/MS06-068, released 11/2006)

P.S. Why was 896422 removed? I could not find an update that supersedes it.

I believe keeping the list like that would make it very hard to read and much too bloated. I'm sure that is the reason why it has never been done.

the_guy always keeps a changelog of what he does in his update lists. It's at the top of the first post. Maybe that will help?

KB896422 is replaced by a combination of KB923414 and KB891861.

I will not be striking thru obsolete updates as it is too confusing for me.

I am a total newbie in this type of stuff. Excuse me if I ask a stupid question. I tried to see if the topic of my interest was addressed elsewhere in this thread but could not find an anwser. Here it is:

I have and nLited version of 2000Pro update pack 4 and the such (including recommanded updates listed here).

Windowsupdate.62nds.com still bugs me with many updates, the first of which "MS05-018: Vulnerabilities in Windows Kernel Could Allow Elevation of Privilege and Denial of Service (890859)".

Is this a real issue and why it is not mentionned here? Anything else I should know on this topic?

Although it's not the right thread, I'll answer this. When visiting WU or the website you mention, various files are checked for revisions and even if they exist. So with removing components with NLITE you'll be missing components causing some flags to be raised. You're best bet would be to slipstream all updates and don't NLITE it. Install the full blown sourcess folder on a VM and check for updates and iron out any issues. If all is OK, then proceed with NLITE on the sourcess folder.

MS07-022 - KB931784 replaces KB920958.

Don't know if MS07-017/KB925902 was tested yet. 020, 021, and 022 are brand spanking new.
