qzmicro Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Do we have an IRC server to idle on? I wish I could speak real time with some of our community members. Please let me know. Qz
ripken204 Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 not that i know of, pretty much all of us have some type of instant messanger so if there is someone that you rly want to talk to then look in their profile for their IM.

So, if I started a channel on EFnet or ANY other network on IRC, would anyone be interested? Just wondering if I should bother. Thanks, later.Qz
ripken204 Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 it would take a while to catch on but give it a shot, ill be glad to join.
Snoop Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 if i remember right there used to be an irc channel for msfn along long time ago but it never got active enough and the few people that did idle there slowly stoped
prathapml Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Thats true.... Anyways, I vote for the IRC room.I'll check if its possible to setup an IRC server on this domain itself.Having an MSFN chatroom on huge networks like EFnet or DALnet, just seems tacky, when we could have it right here itself. Moreover, if the person that originally created the channel exits without passing on the channel-op powers to someone else, control of the channel will VERY SWIFTLY be lost to hackers.
ripken204 Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 the should there be moderators for the channels like there are for this board? not just the person who created the channel.
prathapml Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Yes, there will have to be some person or bot, to moderate or over-see the goings-on.Only difference is, they aren't called mods, but rather - Ops (for channel-operators).
Scubar Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 i think an irc room would be very helpful indeed. its always nice to talk to someone in realtime when you have a problem.
Zxian Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 I'd be an op!!! I spend most of my time during the day online...
qzmicro Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 I'd be an op!!! I spend most of my time during the day online... <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I second that. I spend most of my time on IRC anyway. I idle on 2 differnt network at once. I'm an op on one of 'em. It's a small channel for our forum community at bubbas-world. Well, if you can set up the channel prathapml, I'll moderate it. Let me know... this sounds like it might take off.Qz
ringfinger Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 I'd most definatly like to speak live on IRC. I think it'd be yet another great asset this community has to offer. Like prathapml said, possibly an IRC applet over HTTP like you see on some sites would be great.
prathapml Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Opinions please. We'll setup an IRC server on the msfn domain itself, and then the ops & us can enter it. For the rest of the non-savvy public, pjIRC is good i think - It gives a web-interface to access the IRC room. We can set it up such that only members can access the web interface, and they can be all sent straight to a pre-set chatroom. In other words, when its done, the experts can use irc://irc.msfn.org/#chatroomname (via mIRC, trillian, etc) and the members who just want to enter quick, can chat via web itself, at http://msfn.org/ircSample - http://www.pjirc.com/chat/SimpleApplet.php?nick=Guest???You can see it LIVE in action here: http://broadbandforum.in/irc/
