gamehead200 Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 I have a Linksys 8-port router...Every day, at some point, it will disconnect and reconnect...Why does it do this and how can I make it not do what its doing? BTW, I don't have a static IP...
HashDump Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 perhaps its not your router but your ISP renewing your IP. Are the disconnection times the same everyday?
gamehead200 Posted February 26, 2003 Author Posted February 26, 2003 Nope...But when I'm download a huge file, I can never download the whole thing because of my disconnections...
zivan56 Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 Try upgrading your firmware, I've had a problem with my old SMC router where it disconnects every few hours.
gamehead200 Posted February 27, 2003 Author Posted February 27, 2003 Its probably my ISP, cuz its been disconnecting ever since I bought it...
Porn Loader Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 ipconfig /all from a command line... it lists your dhcp lease expiration, but you'll have to do it w/o the router.
[PseudoKiller] Posted March 15, 2003 Posted March 15, 2003 the reconnects are usually related to a firmware problem in the Linksys. Its unlikey that they are releasing and renewing a DHCP lease a few times a day. Posible but not likey. Be sure you have all your connections tight and secure and be sure you are running the latest firmware. If those things are fine you could call you ISP and ask them if there are any problems in your area. If they says no, standard anser for all most anything, you might want to have they come out and test the connection and stuff... NOTE: Before you call them be sure to unplug your modem / router. Standard policy is that if they can see your MAC you are fine and it is a problem on your LAN. That reminds me... have you tried to do a staright conenction to one computer and see if disconnects and reconnects?? 'Spoooooooon !!!!'
gamehead200 Posted March 15, 2003 Author Posted March 15, 2003 ,Mar 15 2003, 10:51 AM] ...That reminds me... have you tried to do a staright conenction to one computer and see if disconnects and reconnects?? 'Spoooooooon !!!!'Yes, before I installed the router last year, everything was fine and it never disconnected on me...I was able to leave it on all day without having it disconnect...It might be the firmware since I never updated it when I got the router...I'll try fixing it when I get back from Mexico!
