XL-DJK Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Hey crowd, been a while since I've been on here, I remember when all the hype went around where everyone thinks they've found a way to disable WGA........got a news flash for you..........DOESN'T WORK! I've set up a comp running a typical CDKey, allowed it to do the ordinary tasks it needs to do on WinUpdate......even allowed WGA to be thrown on the comp, and then........I checked for redistibutable d/l's for HOME edition........no go.......here's a list of updates you can try to find yourself, I've only been able to locate 15 out of 37WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 10windows media format runtimeXP hotfix - KB867282XP hotfix - KB885835XP hotfix - KB873339XP hotfix - KB885836XP hotfix - KB885894XP hotfix - KB834707XP hotfix - KB886185XP hotfix - KB890175XP hotfix - KB888113XP hotfix - KB887472XP hotfix - KB891781XP hotfix - KB888302XP hotfix - KB890047XP hotfix - KB873333XP hotfix - KB885250XP hotfix - KB887742XP hotfix - KB893066XP hotfix - KB890923XP hotfix - KB890859XP hotfix - KB893086Update for Windows XP (KB898461)Security Update for Windows XP (KB896428)Security Update for Windows XP (KB890046)Security Update for Windows XP (KB896358)Security Update for Windows XP (KB896422)Security Update for Windows XP (KB883939)Security Update for Windows XP (KB901214)Security Update for Windows XP (KB903235)Security Update for Windows XP (KB899587)Security Update for Windows XP (KB896423)Security Update for Windows XP (KB899588)Security Update for Windows XP (KB899591)Security Update for Windows XP (KB893756)Update for Windows XP (KB896727)Update for Windows XP (KB894391)Hotfix for Windows XP (KB896344)Update for Windows XP (KB900930)

XL-DJK Posted August 17, 2005 Author Posted August 17, 2005 (edited) TOOLS -> MANAGE ADD-ONS -> Disable ActiveX is the one I use and this is the result: Edited August 17, 2005 by XL-DJK95355
ringfinger Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 TOOLS -> MANAGE ADD-ONS -> Disable ActiveX is the on I used....In what program are you doing this? IE? I'm looking for the best way to do this right now myself, don't know if I should use a key... but this method seems pretty painless I just don't know where "Manage Add-Ons" is.
ILuvSnakMachines Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 You need to have SP2 installed to have the Manage Add Ons. But its in the tools menu, like said.
XL-DJK Posted August 18, 2005 Author Posted August 18, 2005 Still, the process was presented and it still has no effect, it's as though if WinUpdate doesNOT receive a response from the ActiveX, it won't allow for update d/l...........I'm thinking I may delete the file and seeing what happens after that
war59312 Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 You need the cracked file. Which no I won't be posting here. PS: Ever head of E-Mail?
Hatefulsorrow Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 war is right. I think that WU page checks to see if the activex control is present. I've updated a few computers lately that didn't have WGA on it yet and WU required it to be installed to veiw the new v6 page. But I tried a java disable and got around it.javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all')You put this in the address bar before you click express or custom. Then just press enter and click your option. Works fine for me. I use it in my business when I run across a hacked system that I'm fixing.
XL-DJK Posted August 19, 2005 Author Posted August 19, 2005 Well, it appears that when you delete the ActiveX, and then proceed to v6 page, Update automatically throws it back on your comp......... nice, eh?
surcix Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 i'm new in this wga post so i have a (maybe) stupid question. do i have to instal the kb892130 (wga) file in order for the "disable wga" option to appear in ie6 ??? what happens while u install that file ??? or after installing it ???
