how to remove the "remove hardware" icon

for those of u who dont like icons in the tray(like me), and u have the remove hardware icon, i have a fix for it.

this is the final fix!!!

http://frontiernet.net/~unholyknights/stobject.dll

just put this in system32 and it will work but backup ur original if u ever want to use the safely remove hardware icon

http://frontiernet.net/~unholyknights/HideSRHi.exe

dload this, run the file, and ur set

30 seconds after u log in the icon will go away

another something that works, this just changes the name of batmeter.dll in the system32 folder to batmeter.bak(so that u have it just in case). this method also works
here is an autoscript to do it, u only need to do it once and the icon will never come back again unless u change batmeter.bak to batmeter.dll

http://frontiernet.net/~unholyknights/batmeter.exe

this is something that godan put together so that it doesnt use ur startup folder

no, someone coded the the file that goes in the windows directory, i just did the crappy autoit thing that adds a delay so that it can do it on the startup

Is this the only method? What exactly is this icon and why does it show up on some PC's and not others? like My Pc does not have it, and my buddies new one does? I am running a P4 Socket 478 I875 chipset and he is running a NF4 AMD 64 S939 and both of us used MY unattended image.

the icon shows up if u have somehting plugged into the usb or pcmcia port, my dad's comp showed it when he got a usb printer and mine showed it when i got a wireless card for my laptop

@gamehead200:

A registry tweak for that would be just perfect, but it doesn´t exist. Or at least I haven't found it.

Maybe someone can enlight us.

I repacked this into a silent installer that will place a "Safely Remove Hardware" Shortcut in your Start->All Programs->Accessories startmenu folder and run this autoit for HideSRHi.exe at each startup via the registry and not the startup folder. So now you can add this to the RunOnceEx.cmd for all the UA people out there. Only thing is it is slightly too big to add as an attachment so if some one wants it pm me and i'll mail it to you and if anyone has a place they can post it too pm me as well.
