I just ran across a nice utility called WinUpdatesList here:

I have searched the forums and haven't found any reference to it, so I thought you might find it useful.

I already made an unattended XP install CD. Then I started looking for a way to know which hotfixes I would need and to be honest I found the stickies on this subject pretty confusing (probably oriented to more knowledgeable people than myself).

I had just decided to skip the hotfixes issue for my next update of the Unattended XP CD and now I think I'll use this little utility to check and download what's already installed in my computer, before going ahead with a fresh install.

check out hfnetcheck which is a microsoft tool that does the same and is available with the mbsa.

I have no idea of what the mbsa is. Anywhere I can download hfnetcheck from? Have been Googling around but nothing leads me to Microsoft or another downloading source.

Thanks Astalavista. I don't have an English version running and your script doesn't seem to work in Spanish XP.

GUYS: I wasn't asking for a way to know what hotfixes I have installed. I think I've found a useful utility for that task. I was asking if anyone else had use it and if it was reliable.

@Astalavista: nice idea but i could be done much better. btw the list of installed hotfixes also available in the windows uninstall dialog - just in case you didnt know.

and if you want to add it to the oembranding get the values from the registry, thats cleaner and less error-prone.

if you go to the command prompt and type "systeminfo", it should list the date and time xp was installed, the hotfixes, and other various pieces of information, like installed memory and windows directory

people it was not i who created that script it was someone else

but i can't remember who. So sorry

if your using RyanVM's hotfix pack

you will need to edit the script

original

dir /B %CDROM%\I386\svcpack\KB*.exe

edited for ryanvm's hotfixe pack

dir /B %CDROM%\I386\svcpack\KB*.cab

the script will check the hotfixes in your CD/DVD drive.

so in order to test the script

place your xp cd with hotfixes integrated into your cdrom drive.

then launch the script. enjoy!
