xenz Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 Greeting, I'm a newbie in this "multiboot" field, please excuse my lack of knowledge. With my research on most multiboot program on the scene, ie. isolinux, ezboot, bcdw, cdshell... etc, seems like none of them able to boot off a real ISO image, or am I incorrect ?? (except Acronis related ISO)What I was thinking of acheiving is, instead of copying the ERD2005 content onto the harddrive, doing all the "loader.bin" modification.. etc, just leave the ISO as it is and start off from it just like any floppy image file, or is it impossible at this moment ?Your advice is much appreciated.
jaclaz Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 At the moment this is not possible,or to be more exact it is not possible with NT based OS, though it is possible with Linux and DOS, by means of Grub:http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/ and/or syslinux/isolinux/memdisk:http://syslinux.zytor.com/iso.php(but it does not work on ALL systems)It can be used with DOS based OS too, as well as thissomewhat experimental app by Gandalf :isoemusee here:http://knoppix.tnc.edu.tw/modules/newbb/vi...time=1099845538http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-grub...0/msg00065.html(original page is down, but you can find it here:http://www.newhua.com/cfan/200414/down.htmhttp://www.newhua.com/cfan/200424/ISOEMU_5th.zipI think things are in the going about adding the isoemu feature to GRUB 2.There is also this file for dos (chinese as well):http://bbs.newssc.org/dispbbs.asp?BoardID=...D=131303&page=1http://www.newhua.com/cfan/200503/loadiso.rarnever tested it, though.jaclaz
getwired Posted May 26, 2005 Posted May 26, 2005 Actually, this is exactly what the latest version of WinPE is capable of doing.
jaclaz Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 Actually, this is exactly what the latest version of WinPE is capable of doing.Yes, where can I go and buy it? jaclaz
Siginet Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 Really??So is this something BartPE can't do?So WinPE will allow us to Boot to different ISO's? Not mount an ISO within WinPE and use it inside WinPE?
htc Posted May 28, 2005 Posted May 28, 2005 WinPE cannot boot from multi iso files! As in a full featured OS you can ONLY INDIRECT access the mass storage device so a system booting is only poosible in a "Virual Mashine" such as VirtualPC/VMware.Bur a boot manager in form of boot loader can act as a bios extension to add a extra cdrom drive to existed hardware, them boot from it(the code of bios extension will stay resident). But the "guest system" will also be restricted in access to storage hardware, once the code of bios extension was overwitten by the appl. of the guest system or itself, system will crash.
ethan Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 sorry for my poor english I'm looking for this solution too.and i found magic iso maker could do thisbut looks working with some iso-image onlyor maybe i do it in the wrong wayhiren's boot cd iso, seagate hd tool iso workinglinux iso and reactos iso not working
htc Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Magic ISO dose not have a extra boot manager, so it is IMPOSSIBLE with this programm to selecte a iso image file to "boot" at boot time. The confusion was cause by the fat that MagicISO ONLY load diffrent boot sectors or boot image to boot. But here "boot image"="floppy boot image" or "no-emulation boot image". They are DEFINITIVELY NOT CD/DVD ISO-Image!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
prathapml Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 or is it impossible at this moment ?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hi,The entire reason why its not possible currently, might lie in how the boot process is carried out.Normally, a boot-image is loaded into memory, and then further instructions given by it, are executed. Now, lets say you had an ISO image of 690 MB to be booted from. As you might have guessed, that would require loading the entire ISO into memory, which is still not possible with most PCs today. Some day, when PCs have enough RAM as to load 690 MB up, and still have enough memory left for other operations, this might be considered realistically.
DrHoang Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 or is it impossible at this moment ?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hi,The entire reason why its not possible currently, might lie in how the boot process is carried out. Hi all, All are possible( ISO boot another ISO ): That is unbelievable with BCDW 201 I already made out a sole DVD( multiboot ISO ) with a boot menu choosing between Hiren7. ISO, True image80.iso, 2000 iso and XP install together with XPE SP2.Dr Hoang
mraslann Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 In Bcdw It is possible to boot iso files and ima, img, wbt files and it is possible to graphical menu, the only disadvantage is in graphical menu mouse will not work. if any one want a template that is a sample file with structure, ask me and let me know where to upload.
Felipe Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Why not post it here (with code tags) ?I'm trying to get this to work also, but PE or Linux fails to boot.
perlabsrat Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 In Bcdw It is possible to boot iso files and ima, img, wbt files and it is possible to graphical menu, the only disadvantage is in graphical menu mouse will not work. if any one want a template that is a sample file with structure, ask me and let me know where to upload.Could someone post examples of this here?
jaclaz Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 @perlabsratAt the moment there is NO known way to boot a NT based system off an image file. The only workaround is Ramdisk booting, do read this:http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?...=2692&st=26Also, this thread is over TWO YEARS old, in these cases it is better to start a new thread instead of "bumping" the old one, if the original poster did not post the code in two years, it is unlikely that he will fulfill (or even read) your request. jaclaz
jojo2005 Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 @allBCDW you get it hereand BCDW FAQ hereIs the easiest way to make Multiboot CD/DVD bootable...cyajojo2005
