Jeremy Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 I tried to uninstall VMware once and it didn't work properly so I just deleted all associated files on my HD and what I could find of it in my registry and everytime I have tried to reinstall it, it says a the previous version is still installed and won't try to overwrite it. Anyway, I've found more stuff in the registry but it will appear as if I removed it, but if I go somewhere else in the registry and then go back it, all the entries are back. Here are the places in the registry:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_VMAUTHDSERVICEHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_VMNETBRIDGEHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_VMNETDHCPHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_VMNETUSERIFHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_VMWARE_NAT_SERVICESame things for ControlSet002 and CurrentControlSetAny ideas how I can fix this? No, I don't feel like reformatting right now. I'd rather not let this issue defeat me and force me to format, I like to workaround things.
MCT Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 no need 2 reformat goto SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Installer\Products find the key corresponding with vmware & remove it
Jeremy Posted May 14, 2005 Author Posted May 14, 2005 Like I said before, I've already removed everything corresponding to VMware through Registry Finder in JV16 PowerTools. Doesn't fix anything. The problem is that JV16 doesn't scan other parts pertaining to Service entries.
Fridge-RaideR Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 I had the same problem and I also had allready deleted that key.. and much more.. no luck yet
Jeremy Posted May 14, 2005 Author Posted May 14, 2005 For future reference, just because the Add/Remove Programs method doesn't work, doesn't mean you're out of luck. Many installers require you execute the same file that is used to install. setup.exe. You can Modify, Repair or Uninstall.Looks like the reformat will have to do it.
k0pect8 Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 did the VM network connections get removed? how about the VMWare network adapters in Device Manager? how about in services:*VMware Authorization Service*VMware DHCP Service*VMware NAT Service
