Area 51 -Spy from Google Maps Satellite

Someone on LiveJournal came up with this idea, so I dont take any credit. Just thought it was interesting.

If you Open Google Maps, and switch to Satellite view, you can zoom in over where Area 51 allegedly is, you can see a runway, some craters, and 'green circles' lol

no joke, the terraserver one is an older photo, is black & white, and is more 'edited'. Weird. Im laughing and shaking my head at the same time.

for those that cant find it, A51 is to the west of Little A Le Inn, its the white blob in the center of the map, zoom in on that.

as for green craters? i see green dots, but those are all over the maps, they look like distance markers or censor marks.

A51, if you look at it you can see the rail tracks leading up the mountain side and to sub stations, it looks like a heavy water plant, like the Telemark.

Ever wonder where the US gets its heavy water from?

Well I looked into it a bit.

The one area litered with all the craters is the Nevada Test Site.

The green circles are irrigation systems i think.

A51, if you look at it you can see the rail tracks leading up the mountain side and to sub stations, it looks like a heavy water plant, like the Telemark.

If you're refering to the Rhukan plant it was water powered, therefore close to the mountain, had the size of you local quickymart and oh, it had no runways...

Besides, area 51 a heavy water plant? ... its just such a conspiracy theory turnoff don't ya think

makes sense though, mountainous area, lots of track and pipe work, nuclear testing area, remote, top secret.

like the telemark in layout (except the runway)

its got runway,.... and? its in the middle of the freaking desert, makes sense no? yes it makes the conspiracy theories loook boring but... usually the boring thing is the truth, and it really looks like a HW plant.

yup considering them they would never never allow anyone even google maps or anything to have a view of area51.

why not? pictures of A51 have been in general circulation for YEARS.

thats why i recognised what structure was A51 and not some of the other buildings nearby.

Now close up pictures.. thats something else. try zoom right in and see what you get

There was a Russian Satellite Photo with better resolution of Area 51 that 'leaked' a few years ago.

In April 2005, Google added satellite images to the Beta version of their Google Maps. In press releases they stated the images may be 6 months to a year old. You are able to zoom in a bit but completely zooming in generates the message “We’re sorry, but we don’t have imagery at this zoom level for this region.” In Non-US images, including high-resolution photographs from Russian satellites and the commercial IKONOS system are, however, easily available (and abound on the Internet).

The images of the Nevada Test Site, are the 'best' I have seen though.

Between 1951 and 1992, there were a total of 925 announced nuclear tests at Nevada Test Site. 825 of them were underground (seismic data has indicated there may have been many unannounced underground tests as well). The site is covered with subsidence craters from the testing. [1] (http://www.nv.doe.gov/news&pubs/photos&films/Images/photolib/8X10/NF474.JPG) The Nevada Test Site was the primary testing location of American atomic bombs, only 129 tests were conducted elsewhere (many at the Marshall Islands).
