Suppose this is old news perhaps, and sorry everyone if this has been said before:

You no longer need an invite. :) You can go sign up all on your own now. And you get 50 invites to send, somehow. So if anyone else wants gmail, now's the time because this could go away at any time, as google could just decide that they won't let anyone else in for a while.
