Registry Tweaks, Part-1

Featured Replies

HI.

What registry setting should I make to make sure that my start menu is NOT classic?

Thanks

This has been mentioned on forum already many times.. Do a search for it.

;Control Panel - Classic View
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"ForceClassicControlPanel"=dword:00000001

I am using the setting...but my start menu is classic (i.e. one column, no mfu).

:)

My bad. I misread. Just go to that registry setting in your XP if its set to NOT classic, and check the value.

i use this to disable autostartup for CTFMON, MSN Msg, intel hot keys and nero filter check but they can be applied to any autostartup apps (note that the reg file need to be run after the installation of MSN Msg, intel drivers, nero ....)

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]"CTFMON.EXE"=""

"MsnMsgr"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

"HotKeysCmds"=""

"IgfxTray"=""

"NeroFilterCheck"=""

Hi guys!

I search in forum,but I can't find a reg tweak for disable firewall end if posible enable it back in xp sp2.

If someone can help with this?

thanx!

Rudi1, try this

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile]
"EnableFirewall"=dword:00000000
"DisableNotifications"=dword:00000000

Thank you Nuhi for your help,this one works :)

Someone posted these keys once to disable the screensaver:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop]
"ScreenSaveActive"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"ScreenSaveActive"="0"
"ScreenSaverIsSecure"="0"
"SCRNSAVE.EXE"=""

But I found out that it sets it so the screensaver can NEVER be turned on. And that won't fly in my office. :)

All I want to do is make it so that by default the screensaver is set to "None" (by default it is set to "Windows XP", as it is called in the list). Can this be done?

I don't know if anyone has ever posted this before, but MS has a new tool that assists in building a script that can be used to tweak some registry settings. TweakoMatic

hi there

just a quote from the link mbouchard posted

You want to know the sordid truth about the TweakUI team? Well, actually, we don?t know anything at all about the TweakUI team (although we sure hope they have a sense of humor). So in order to make our point, we?ll make something up instead.

The truth is, the TweakUI team has the cushiest job on the planet. These guys spend all their time at the baccarat tables in Monte Carlo. Every couple years or so, Microsoft releases a new version of Windows, and these guys drain the last of their martinis, stumble out of the casino, hammer out a new version of TweakUI, and then head back to the gaming tables.

I dunno who writes these but its funny :)

@mbouchard

I think its easier to use .reg files but i'm sure tweakomatic's more usefull to ppl who has to modify lots of computers and do other scripting..

Is it just me, or is this thread getting too big? The admins on the site should make a page with a collection of these reg tweaks and then unsticky this topic, and start a new thread, where they tell people to check out the reg tweak collection page before posting new registry tweaks. Here it says 19 pages (30 posts per page), and I have to say that searching through all the 19 pages to see if your tweak has already been posted is getting rather tedious. Not that I have additions, but I was thinking of the sake of others, especially newbies. I may be wrong to call others that, since I'm most likely considered that here still :rolleyes:, but I don't feel like one. :)

I agree 100%. I would like to help somehow with the effort. Even if redundant tweaks exist, could we make this a TWEAK only posting, and have another post for requests?

You guys ... Admins should do this, they should do that. Man, this is the Internet, this is the last foothold of true freedom of speech THIS IS ANARCHY !

Admins? Those poor slobs put enough time and effort in. You have any idea what kind of job you are talking about?

So, click on the bottom left somewhere, get this page in one document, your choice for the type, clean it up, and make a nice web page, or pages, host it on Yahoo for the "Admins" to look at, and if it looks good, I am sure they would be happy to provide a permanent home.

Waiting on you!

I had started collecting them but that is really really boring task!

and pointless indeed. of course it'd be nice but

for me winguides.com does the job. they've most of the tweaks I'd want (except a few)

and they also have a nice proggie called tweakmanager..

in addition there are many tweak programs for tweaking reg

2 of them afaik allows u to save them as reg files 1 being winguides website 2nd x-setup? x-something I forgot ...

I'd say someone start copying and pasting all the reg's posted in here to a text file

then somehow crop out the duplicates :rolleyes:

long way:

save each reg to a text file then compare the txt files

short way: I don't know :)

well if someone hasnt done it by the time I get home and off vacation, I know of a pretty easy way to do it and ill do it...
