Registry Tweaks, Part-1

Recommended Posts

For those of you testing SP2 build 2120, just a little warning.

I found those two lines in my registry tweaks collection that don't work on that build. Regedit reports processes are opened and can't apply the changes.

But still everything else got applied, it just skipped these with a warning.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system]
"DisableStatusMessages"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system]
"NoInternetOpenWith"=dword:00000001

Please dont get angry at me for putting up my entire reg tweaks list! But I want to make it the most comprehensive one ever!

So.. here goes:

------------------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT NOTE: You MUST edit the file and modify it according to your system! Do not directly apply the reg file without customizing it first!

Please feel free to modify the file in any way you wish, but maintain the original format and do not delete any tweaks (comment it instead)

Download : RegTweaks_10c.reg (40 K)

Edit: Alternate Link

Removed the rather large regedit file, seeing as there is also a download link. - Alanoll

Open Regedit and browse over to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Create the following values by right clicking in the right side pane:

Value name: AllowLegacyWebView

Value type: DWORD

Value data: 1

Value name: AllowUnhashedWebView

Value type: DWORD

Value data: 1

Value name: RevertWebViewSecurity

Value type: DWORD

Value data: 1

----

After you do that, make sure that you reset the folder view settings:

In Windows Explorer, click Tools, and then click Folder Options.

On the View tab, click Reset All Folders.

LADIES!

Please do not post your tweaks in here if they go for more than 40 lines.

Instead, please save it into a .reg file, and put it into a .zip or .rar file, and have it hosted externally and link to it, OR USE THE DAMNED FILE ATTACHMENT TOOL!

Thank you.

Saves us from having to scroll through 500+ lines of text.

the worst part is, is that he did post a link to it, AFTER the code block. I'll remove the block.

Also, just as a little reminder, they the attachment thing is good, after you question has been answered and you posted a IMAGE, do remove the attachment. It saves bandwidth.

Yes. Disable the Firewall service using this:

;Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) / Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service
;default: manual/automatic (home/pro) - dword:3 (home) or dword:2 (pro)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess]
"Start"=dword:4

And you'll probably need to use this too:

;configures firewall for windows xp service pack 2 RC1
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile]
"EnableFirewall"=dword:00000000
