newVBM3 Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Hello. Is there a way to change the COM port numbers or reassign them in Windows 98 SE? Thanks.
Goodmaneuver Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 You could add dummy ports in Win.INI then the next port to install will be named the next in the list. Remove redundant ports in Win.INI. Example of port config under [Ports] is COM2:=9600,n,8,1,x
SweetLow Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 It depends of software you try to run, to be precise. Few options: 1. HARDWARE Registry Subkey (HKLM\Enum\). Search registry keys with name == "PORTNAME" 2. BIOS Data Area, 40h:0 - 40h:7, 4 WORDs, BIOS known COM port base addresses.
