I work in Engineering and follow the "back up often" motto.

LOL. I am the typical one who stumbles on the same stone over and over again.

first thing I did was to zip (backup) the original 360chrome system folder (2GB) before messing around with files.

I didn't delete anything but the current system folder now is well under 800MB for no apparent reason.

I unzipped the 360chrome RAR (build 1030) and tried to swap in the current user data folder with no chance

I am using a secondary disk because my primary one has serious software issues and internet is not working anymore

fortunately I have a third disk (all them powered on in the same rig) with a cleaner XP install where I had a copy of this browser that I have used a couple months ago.

after several attempts I was able to restore the 230 links I had under OneTab extension and the Session Buddy addon helped me restore the previous lost session (very strange move because sessions from this browsers were merged with sessions from the other one...)

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/session-buddy/edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko

the other browser system folder has pretty much the same extensions except a few ones I already removed or added so it's easier to reinstall them one by one.

PROBLEM is that I realized some extensions are no longer supported but still work well if they are installed like Read Aloud

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/read-aloud-a-text-to-spee/hdhinadidafjejdhmfkjgnolgimiaplp?hl=en

this is the only reason why I would need to restore my extensions because I can't download them anymore.

moreover I don't use the latest build (2022) of 360chrome because I can't move these extensions in to there.

Just tried using this browser on my x86 Vista notebook PC.  It works WAY better than either Serpent or myPal 68.

I have not used the Serpent 52 since last summer despite liking the Firefox layout better.

it's based on the same sluggish engine as the original Basilisk browser

Mypal68 is a nice project but it's not been updated for a long while now and it doesn't perform any better than 360chrome whatsoever.

I don't want to throw in the towel but I feel I'm in a blind alley

I love XP and don't use any real time AV but the lack of updated fast browsers is a deal breaker to me.

I hate using two computers at a time one for XP and one for things XP can't do. :}

I myself prefer build 1030 and do not use 2022 either.

sometimes (not all the time) when I search something on the URL or search bar the browser crashes when google site shows up.... very strange !

please elaborate this... :dubbio:

I download all of my extensions from here - https://www.crx4chrome.com/

I've "never" actually installed via Chrome Web Store.

There are some extensions that convert the Chrome Web Store's "install" to a "download" instead, I don't recall what they are offhand.

Very rarely do I use an extension "as-is" (I remove non-English languages, I break phone-home telemetry, I disable auto-update, I edit js/css, et cetera).

settings/advanced/HTTPS-SSL... when I check the ''certificate risk'' option some sites report an error message in russian.

why is the ''https'' striked out in red on the URL bar ???

Because you are on XP.  I just IGNORE this when I'm on XP.  Others have jumped through hoops of importing "certificates" BUT THIS WILL NOT SOLVE THIS COMPLETELY (on XP), so I don't bother with these "imported" certificates.

Others that do use those updated certificates may chime in.

So far (knock on wood), I can still do EVERYTHING on XP.

OCAPI would be my last chance if the 360chrome becomes unusable like IE6 back in the day

I know it's easier said than done, hopefully @roytam1 comes up with a new browser based on Mypa68 engine or alike.

I don't recommend OCAPI on your main machine though.

I know it's unstable but there's no other alternative.

this 360chrome browser will not last forever as I noticed some sites don't load properly anymore

for example, you can't see any disk listed here unless you find a specific link.
