jumper Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 As of December, two workarounds were: 1) Run the client in Windows 2000 compatibility mode 2) Use Goodsync client to access Dropbox (via Core API)Here’s how to use Dropbox on Windows XP
Dave-H Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 I'm pretty sure that the first method no longer works. The last version I had working like that was 15.4.22, later versions won't now run properly, even with the compatibility mode set, and just throw error messages.
jumper Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 > What if one was to use an older version and prevent this Auto Updating that was happening, which eventually led for it to stop working? Worth a try. Old versions can be found at FileHippo: Dropbox - History. To disable updates, block v-client-*.sjc.dropbox.com (not sure of the exact string) in hosts file or: https://forums.boxifier.com/t/fixed-disable-dropbox-updates-howto-feature-request/764 Here's a solution (windows only), using "software restriction policies": https://www.dropboxforum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/201559395-Disable-automatic-updates?flash_digest=509ddbc9093d13a13cf2787dae625b66b67b40e8 . > Unfortunately, in my experience the Dropbox server will block access if it detects what it considers to be an out of date version. Boxifier has a setting "Block Dropbox Updates" that allows the previous version to continue working until Boxifier has a matching update. Dropbox might only work with the most recent previous version, however. > later versions won't now run properly Probably fixable as Vista is still supported. The client files can be patched without touching the system. Think of it as "recompiled for XP."
sdfox7 Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 (edited) Until a solution is found, in the meantime, I would recommend using the web-based version of DropBox (https://www.dropbox.com/login), which works perfectly even on Windows 2000 and Firefox ESR 45.8.0: Edited April 25, 2017 by sdfox7 added web link for DropBox, corrected Firefox ESR version from "48" to "45.8.0" (the latest official ESR for Windows 2000) 1

But today I find it just doesn't work, I can't log in. Anyone have any way to access DropBox from XP? I have resorted to using an iPad and transferring from that to my PC. Which is a real drag. Without checking for myself (I don't have my login credentials for my Dropbox account handy) that sounds like Dropbox is yet another site that decided to implement code which doesn't work on any browser available to XP. I've experienced the same thing with LinkedIn, BlockFi, and Coinbase. Over in Roytam1's thread on his XP ports for various browser projects, there seems to be some kind of effort to correct this by some other users with Polyfill. But I've had trouble following along with what they're doing.
Dave-H Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 The Dropbox site works fine in XP on 360Chrome 13.5 FWIW.

While I don't use it personally for such sites, from what I've read, 360Chrome appears to be the last remaining browser for XP which is still reasonably compatible with the modern Internet. c
