alacran Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 This article describes a convenience rollup for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1-based computers. This rollup package includes almost all the updates that were released after the release of SP1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, through April 2016. This convenience rollup is intended to make it easy to integrate fixes that were released after SP1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. We recommend that you include this rollup package in the image creation process to make it easier to quickly set up a computer. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3125574 Prerequisites To apply this update, you must install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB976932) and April 2015 servicing stack update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB3020369). Please be carefull this Pack may have all Telemetry Updates in it. alacran
351837 Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 (edited) Too good to be true. Knowing MS behavior lately, smells like a trap. EDIT (couple of hours later): After clean install W7PRO SP1 and updated with April servicing stack and this. Looks like i was wrong. (for now) Edited May 18, 2016 by 351837
alacran Posted May 18, 2016 Author Posted May 18, 2016 (edited) Quote Simplifying updates for Windows 7 and 8.1 May 17, 2016By Nathan Mercer10 updated to include link to KB article for Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1 and details on Servicing Stack Update dependency While we’ve spent a lot of time over the past year talking about Windows 10 (including new roadmap details), we know that organizations are still working with Windows 7 too, regularly updating their Windows 7 SP1 images to include the latest updates, app versions, and more. For those that are involved in that process, you’ve probably seen a display like this too many times: New Windows 7 SP1 convenience rollup makes image creation much faster We’re happy to announce today that we’re making available a new convenience rollup for Windows 7 SP1 that will help. This convenience rollup package, available to download from http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=3125574, contains all the security and non-security fixes released since the release of Windows 7 SP1 that are suitable for general distribution, up through April 2016. Install this one update, and then you only need new updates released after April 2016. And since this update can be injected into Windows 7 SP1 media, it’s fully supported to mount a Windows 7 SP1 image (WIM file), then inject this update into it. See https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744559(v=ws.10).aspx for the details of how to do this. This convenience update is completely optional; it doesn’t have to be installed and won’t even be offered via Windows Update – you can choose whether or not you want to use it. To apply this update, you must install the April 2015 servicing stack update for Windows 7 (KB3020369). You can read more about the Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1 here. We hope that you find this convenience rollup package useful. This same convenience rollup also applies to Windows Server 2008 R2. Monthly Rollups Also today we are announcing that non-security updates for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 (as well as Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2) will be available as a monthly rollup (fixes rolled up together into a single update). Each month, we will release a single update containing all of the non-security fixes for that month. We are making this change – shifting to rollup updates, to improve the reliability and quality of our updates. These fixes will be available through Windows Update, WSUS, and SCCM as well as the Microsoft Update catalog. We hope this monthly rollup update simplifies your process of keeping Windows 7, and 8.1 up-to-date. Simplifying finding and downloading updates Updates have historically been published on the Microsoft Download Center and the Microsoft Update Catalog. Security Bulletins have linked directly to update packages on the Microsoft Download Center. To simplify this, within the next few months Windows updates will no longer be available from the Microsoft Download Center. Security bulletins will continue to link directly to the updates, but will point to the packages on the Microsoft Update Catalog instead of the Microsoft Download Center. Customers that use tools linking to the Microsoft Download Center should follow the links provided in the Security Bulletins or search directly on the Microsoft Update Catalog. For those who aren’t familiar with the Microsoft Update Catalog website, note that it still requires using Internet Explorer at this point because of an ActiveX control used. Later this summer, we will be updating the site to eliminate the ActiveX control in order to support other browsers. As always, all updates will still be available via WSUS, SCCM, and Windows Update – this change is only for manual downloads. https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/windowsitpro/2016/05/17/simplifying-updates-for-windows-7-and-8-1/ Edited May 19, 2016 by alacran Remarking in red relevant parts
NoelC Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Heh, and now they've done the inevitable, leaving those of us who choose to run older systems with some of the most difficult decisions yet... They've released new "Service Pack"-like updates for Windows 7 and 8 that include EVERYTHING. KB3125574 See this article: http://www.infoworld.com/article/3071737/microsoft-windows/microsoft-overhauls-windows-7-and-81-updating-but-dont-call-it-a-service-pack.html Now is the time, before just blithely accepting this update, to think hard about whether you want to continue to accept ALL of what Microsoft wants to push on you, or maybe just stop updates entirely. -Noel 1
Stefan43 Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 (edited) I read that the following updates are included: KB3068708 – “This update introduces the Diagnostics and Telemetry tracking service to existing devices. By applying this service, you can add benefits from the latest version of Windows to systems that have not yet upgraded. The update also supports applications that are subscribed to Visual Studio Application Insights.” This update replaced KB3022345. KB3075249 – “This update adds telemetry points to the User Account Control (UAC) feature to collect information on elevations that come from low integrity levels.” KB3080149 – “This package updates the Diagnostics and Telemetry tracking service to existing devices. This service provides benefits from the latest version of Windows to systems that have not yet upgraded. The update also supports applications that are subscribed to Visual Studio Application Insights.” Which means... wusa.exe /kb:3068708 /uninstall wusa.exe /kb:3075249 /uninstall wusa.exe /kb:3080149 /uninstall For GWX updates, I don't know if they are included... A quick search in it cannot find any "GWX" occurrence (which may be some good news), hopefully soon there will be reports on what happens when applying it to test machines. jaclaz

vinifera Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Quote it contains all the security and non-security fixes released since the release of Windows 7 SP1 it is ~490 MB btw... if this is not Service Pack by definition then I don't know what is but as*** don't want it to be SP 2 otherwise the support for Win 7 would be extended 1

jaclaz Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Hey peeps, with all due respect , and if I may , lists would be more useful (for search/comparison/etc.) in a TEXT format than in some (lousy) images. And yes, I know I could pass those into some OCR software, but if you could post the list as text, it would be IMHO easier to deal with them. jaclaz
alacran Posted May 20, 2016 Author Posted May 20, 2016 Quote Convenience Rollup Analysis The convenience rollup include almost all the regular updates (General, Security, Hotfixes, .NET 3.5, Features), but not IE updates in addition, it includes the updates for most addons or feature packs only their updates are included, not the feature packs themselves, meaning, you will need to install those packs first, so the rollup can install their updated components afterwards. Those are: PlatformUpdate, RDP, WMF4, AD LDS, RSAT, DCA2.0, VirtualPC, WorkFolders, Server Essentials Connector These are the not superseded updates: security updates released on May 2016, and 3 old ones: KB3150220, KB3153171, KB3153199, KB3155178, KB3156013, KB3156016, KB3156017, KB3156019 KB2898851, KB2900986, KB3059317 general updates released on May 2016, and a few optional ones: KB3139923-v2, KB3140245, KB3153731, KB3156417 KB917607 WinHlp32.exe KB2685811 KMDF 1.11 KB2685813 UMDF 1.11 KB2818604 CPU Microcode - AMD KB3064209 CPU Microcode - Intel KB3046480 .NET 1.1 migration check KB3063109 Hyper-V integration components KB2750841 TCP/IP (superseded, except EnableIPAutoConfigurationLimits registry) WUClient cabs (superseded, but still checked by WU on each search session as fail-safe) these hotfixes all are superseded on files level (except KB2787046) but they provide extra registry keys, so i might replace them with registry files, what do you think? 351837 Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Thanks for sources. But something i don't get it. They specified five Windows 10 KB's and four of them (KB2952664 KB3021917 KB3035583 and KB3123862) i received as optional updates. 57 minutes ago, alacran said: Windows10 kb2952664-v17 KB3021917 kb3035583-v3 kb3123862 kb3150513
dencorso Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 It's quite simple, really: a number of those updates are part of the telemetry system or the update to win 10 (GWX) system (check my list)... hence they are a convenience for MS, not the users, as expected.
