jumper
Sumatra PDF is a PDF, ePub, MOBI, CHM, XPS, DjVu, CBZ, CBR reader for Windows. It doesn't officially support Win10, but it definitely isn't obsolete. Win10 must surely have a compatibility mode for Win8 apps.... Edited October 18, 2015 by jumper
Drugwash
An ePub is actually nothing but a plain zip archive containing xml files with different extensions and HTML files (plus any CSS and images).
loblo
There is also STDUViewer, Sigil and FBReader for those that I can use on Win ME and see no reason why they couldn't work on Win 10, perhaps your epub file is corrupted or actually another file type. jumper
I just googled "epub sample file" and found a wealth of info that anyone researching this topic (or just following this thread) might be interest in.
