frogman
On a Windows 7 starter Netbook and using the Windows Media Player that came with it I am noticing that when I play mp3 files when each file gets near to the end with about say 20 or so seconds to go the audio appears to falter.stop for a sec or two then resume to the end of the track, why is this I am asking and has anyone else found the very same issue? I would say which version of windows media player it is but I don't see anywhere where I can find this information, not in the help section and the player isn't showing in the add/remove programs section either, perhaps it's in the Windows live essentials, but that's another issue I suppose. submix8c
FWIW, sounded more like something corrupt in your Media Player.http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/download-windows-essentialsNo Media Player in WLE for Windows 7. Also noting that Vista has been "dropped" and (as usual) XP is completely ignored. The same is true for many other XP "Updates" (e.g. go try to find IE8 now.) submix8c
Media Player 12 is included -http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/windows-7-starter-top-questions-unless- it's "N" or "KN"http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968211 So try uninstall/reinstall from the Features (if it's the non-KN/N version). Otherwise, who knows how you got it? As I said, something may have been "corrupted". You need all the supplied un-corrupted Codecs to play a variety of filetypes. Othersise... frogman
I did a repair of Windows live programs, unsure if this had anything to do with it. Played a couple of mp3s since and they played without a hitch.Where is the features to uninstall as Windows Media Player isn't showing in the add remove list. submix8c
VLC will install Codecs.WLE -may- have messed up some since it has the "Movie Maker" and -may- install those Codecs as well. I have Pro and the tower is currently unplugged, so... "Features" is different from non-MS listing (what you "found")http://windowsitpro.com/systems-management/q-how-do-i-add-and-remove-features-windows-7and appears to only "turn on/off" (?)http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-add-or-remove-parts-of-windows-7.html Edited October 21, 2014 by submix8c
jaclaz
VLC will install Codecs.Hmmm. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html Features Simple, fast and powerful media player. Plays everything: Files, Discs, Webcams, Devices and Streams. Plays most codecs with no codec packs needed: MPEG-2, DivX, H.264, MKV, WebM, WMV, MP3... Runs on all platforms: Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, Unix... Completely Free, no spyware, no ads and no user tracking. Can do media conversion and streaming. http://lifehacker.com/5877208/what-are-codec-packs-and-should-i-use-them In other words (AFAIK) VLC comes with it's own "internal" codecs that won't in any way interfere with "other player's" codecs. jaclaz

Kelsenellenelvian
Because it is a Windows component that comes with windows like explorer. You will not find it in those places. I would suggest maybe using microsofts fix it Web site
