Monroe
K-Meleon 74 was listed on 29 Sep 2014 at FileHippo for downloading and also some other sites ... in case anyone is interested. *** Also you can follow any additional news on KM 74 changes or news here : K-Meleon 74 Release (the first top sticky) http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/list.php?8 Latest posts from Page 2 : http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/read.php?8,129657,page=2 * Also these websites seem to say "Windows All" or list all the Windows versions ... I am fairly certain it won't work with Windows 9x and also possibly not with Windows 2000 ... but I am not 100 % sure ... for XP and higher, I would think. OK the last post at the KM 74 thread on page 2 seems to cover a few extras and what OS should work with this new version ... Posted by: siria Date: September 30, 2014 06:49PM The new version is announced on many software sites now.But most sites claim KM74 would still run on Win2000(Aside from showing old version screenshots and sounding like it were developed by Firefox)We really could use a few basic details on the news/download/forum pages.Perhaps something like that? (Download KM74....) Much improved display of modern websites.New settings for hiding titlebar and tabs multi-lineBased on Mozilla-Code ESR24. System requirements:Windows min. XP SP2 / Disk space min. 64MB (empty cache and profile)About tabs multi-line, dimly remember it was announced as experimental/for testing? Does it fully work now?And still confused that UA says gecko 24.0 but platform.ini 24.7 FileHippo Main Page: http://www.filehippo.com/ K-Meleon 74.0 http://www.filehippo.com/download_kmeleon Freeware Files: http://www.freewarefiles.com/K-Meleon_program_23392.html Softpedia: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Browsers/KMeleon.shtml ... Jody Thornton
I've been running the last two release candidates, and now the full version. I never thought that K-Meleon would make it, but I'm glad to stand corrected.
vinifera
how is it resource heavy ?less or same as FF ?
Monroe
I thought someone might answer your question, so I will reply. I have no real answer for you ... I don't use Firefox and I am not using this newer KM version at present. I am using KM v1.8.24 which is "connected" to the newer version on early research or trials. I was using (and still have it available) the KM v1.60 by JamesD and then in August I discovered KM v1.8.24 ... it's more like the KM JamesD version but newer. It doesn't seem to use much resources. Go to the KM forum under the General tab and ask your question ... I am sure JohnHell or JamesD or someone will answer your question ... you do not have to be a member to post anything, I am pretty sure. I seem to remember someone making a comment about FF and KM some time back ... it may have been JohnHell.... Monroe
It is a little hard to find ... it is in the Development thread under the General thread Support & Development Development The third sticky down ... started by adodupan Sticky: K-Meleon 1.8.0 Development The first link : gecko.24.kmeleon.1.8.24.build.22 under George Haal on Page 0ne I don't know if it will work with Windows 98SE but no harm in experimenting ... *** Forgot the links: Development : K-Meleon Forum http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/list.php?2 http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/read.php?2,126206 Edited October 21, 2014 by monroe

Monroe
OK ... the news that you have KM74 working a little on W98SE might be of interest in the KM Forum ... after you experiment more. I assume you probably have KernelEx installed. I am sure there are still W98SE users there along with Windows XP. I tried K74 and it seemed to have "some limitations" that the developer didn't carry over into his version ... also a lot of older plugins working with older versions of KM didn't work with KM74 ... that was a few months ago and maybe some of those have been updated. I liked the KM v1.8 version since it still was close to the KM v1.6 (JamesD) version, which I understand better but it has a newer Gecko engine, if I understand things correctly. This is taken from the thread / topic: Question About All These Newer K-Meleon Versions http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/read.php?2,128917 "adodupan's 1.8 is a test version of 74 that works on core but IMHO mainly has changes in XUL/Chrome -> Prefernces Panel. You will notice that he asked in General for details about what chrome pref parts do normally when they function. Its both: about broken things and new things." I don't fully understand all the work being done on the various versions but I think everything will eventually end up in a "future" KM74 version update. Great bunch of people over there working on various problems and versions. For now I like KM v1.8 ... don't know if there will be anymore work done with it.... jumper
Posting with K-Meleon74_31: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 K-Meleon/74.0All these new K-Meleon versions (1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 74) now run on my customized Win98se+KernelEx+Kexstubs system, but very slowly. I'll post details in the MSFN 9x sub-forum and on the K-Meleon forum.
