I need to reinstall xp home on my friends pc but I dont remember if going through the regular install process of xp will wipe out all the info OR just reinstall all the system files.

No, u do not need to wipe the files. If you run a repair install, it will keep everything intact, exept windows updates. To perform a repair install, boot from the xp cd and press enter to got to the install menu. Then, highlight the partition with windows on it and press R. It will look like a full install, but everything will be intact.

it warns u about my documents folder

and after repair I think it creates

username.computername files as users folders in documents and settings...

I've read this, but have not tried it as yet... :)

If you need to reinstall WindowsXP and want to keep all your current installed

applications and settings:

Start WindowsXP

Go to the location of your source files

Run WINNT32 /unattend

It's always wise to backup precious items first of course

Repair install will leave all data and all application softwares installed unaffected but the repair install can only be done by retail version of WXP and not by recovery CDROM which normally comes with OS pre-installed PC.
